G Ravi Kiran - Gayana Samaj Bengalooru

On a Sunday afternoon, my grand niece made me take her to this concert at the legendary Bengaloouru Gayana Samaja. The fresh coffee at the canteen set me up for an evening of soukiyam!!
G Ravikiran was accompanied by HK Venkatraman(violin), Tumkur Ravisankar (mrithangam) and Swamy(?) on Ganjira.
It was a delightful fare fo 3 hours!!

I loved the way Sri Ravi sang each Kriti with devotion/bakti towards the composer and the song - kudos. Especially liked that he sang all the charanams for the main piece.

I am not musically well equipped to take down technical notes - here is the list that lakshmi jotted down:

1. chera ravademira - reetigowlai (S)
2. lekana - asaveri
3. aparama bhakti - pantuvarali (r,n,s) at "lakshmi devi"
4. sri ramam - narayanagowla (few rounds of slow speed S at Pallavi)
5. vachamagocharame - kaikavasi
6. swara raga sudha - shankarabaranam (r,n,s at mooladhara) - but all 4 charanams were sung.
7. left after the thaniavarthanam as he started a bhajan in sindubairavi (I think) - as I feared the commute back home

soukiyam filled and vidvat-filled experience for me personally. vintage fare.

I attended the concert.Ravi Kiran is indeed rasikas delight.Not a single dull moment.Excellent concert.

In a T20 format recital at chowdiah hall last week, he sang two compositions of Mysore Sadashiva Rao very impressively. vachamagochara in atana and pedda devudu in mohana in the scheduled 30 mins were memorable.
