Smt. Neela Ramgopal gave a memorable concert on Muthayaa Bhagavathur compositions in Bangalore as part of the BTM Cultural Academy Composer's festival.
Have heard a lot of Valachi's in the past but this one was definitely special. However, the handling of the Kaambhoji ragam was clearly the stand out event of the concert. During the rendition of the Kaambhoji ragam there were 'new and fresh' prayogas. I really wish there is a recording out there...also...the sruti bedham was beautifully executed.
Akkari's rendition of the Valachi ragam was exemplary to say the least.
Wish and pray we get to listen to many such concerts in the Bangalore area...

Missed the concert! She was singing Muthiah Bhagavathar too.
I heard the first concert in the series. BTM Sabha is cosy, friendly and brings back memories of how sabhas used to be. Simple and informal. Still, don't underestimate the audience. They are such good listeners. The venue is Ramana Maharishi School for the Blind, and as I have mentioned earlier in another thread, the students attend some of the concerts and most of them enjoy them thoroughly.
I was there for the first concert in the series--that of Dr. Satyavathi. I have missed her concerts all this time for one reason or other, and what a surprise package she is! Never heard anyone else give such depth and weight to Purandra DAsA's kritis (they usually end up as tukkaDAs). She seems to be the true torch bearer for the R.K.Srikantan school. As if that isn't enough, she is erudite and imaginative to boot.
Wish I had heard Neela Ramgoplal too. Another original...
