Language of OTV's compositions

Post by shobana »

Namaskaram... Can someone please clarify the following?

What is the language of the following Oothukadu's compositions?
1) Swagatham Krishna - Sanskrit or Telugu?
2) Madhura Madhura Venugeetham - Sanskrit or Malayalam or Manipravalam?

I did ask this question in the "swagatham Krishna notation" thread. Since haven't received any response, thought I placed it in a wrong thread and starting a new one.

Someone Kindly help me.

Thank you,
Shobana

hello shobana,

both the compositions are in samskrutam.

>Swagatham Krishna
you might have assumed that this was a Telugu composition because,
it appeared in a Telugu movie/this composition is very popular among Kuchipudi repertoire

>Madhura Madhura Venu geetham
you might have assumed that this was a Malayalam or Manipravalam composition because,
venkatakavi uses words like kaḷabā or kōmaḷānga with the ळ-kara

(the usage of ळ-karam in samskrutam can be considered as an olden practice)

कळभ(kaḷaba)==>कलभ(kalabha)==> black datura
कोमळाङ्ग(kōmaḷānga)==>कोमलाङ्ग(komalAGga)==>having a tender body

note:
you also can see the usage of word कळभ (with the ळ-kara) in one of muttuswami dikshitar's composition
करि कळभ मुखं (kari kaLabha mukhaM) where कळभ here means young elephant

Thank you for clearing this up.
True that I got the question because of the word Kalabha.

Thank you again.

Can we please change the topic to say OVK? OTV sounds like some sort of Terrain Vehicle - particularly since it doesn't seem to fit with either Oottukaadu Venkata Kavi or Venkatasubbaiyer?

Some lighthearted fun:

Now, that is an interesting concept! ;)
Extrapolating, since ElA nI daya rAdu was presented in salangai oli, it could be assumed to be in tamizh?
And didn't Smt. MLV sing enta vEDukondu rAghavA in another tamizh movie? :)
mAnasa sancararE in the telugu movie SankarAbharaNam?
And what about himAdri sutE pAhimAm, kuru yadu nandana etc., in the kannaDa movie hamsa gItE? :lol:

I am sure there are scores more examples...
