Hamsadhwani -25 Jan -V,Sanjeev (violin) Kallidaikuruchi Sivakumar (Mri)

Gayathri Girish gave an excellent concert in Hamsadhwani before a large audience.

The following songs were included
sarasuda saveri varnam
vallabha nayakasya begada (S)
ragasudha rasa andolika
Sri Matrubhutam kannada (S)
Paradeivam purvikalyani Sivan (R S )
Dakshinamoorte sankarabharanam
Bhogeendra sayinam kuntalavarali (R S)
Chakkani Raja karaharapriya (R N S T)
Virutham Ragamalika -Priyadarshini,Ananda Bhairavi,Kapi
Palani Ninra Kapi Periasami tooran
Karunaimadi Ragamalika -N S Chidambaram
.....

I missed the last few pieces.
Good tempo was maintained throughout - her voice was in top form and accompaniments combined very well - the concert came out to be a topclass one.
Swaras in Begada and Kannada were very crisp.Sivan composition was not oft heard
and was very appealing.
I was happy that I did not miss this.
A fine slokam preceded the majestic Dakhsinamoorte.
Brief alapana of kuntalavarali and beautiful kriti of Swatitirunal along with intricate swara patterns was refreshing.
Chakkani Raja was taken up for elaboration - Raga Alapana was comprehensive
and nerval in Kantiki Sunadara including all words in the line was not common and was very enjoyable. The swara turned out to be simple unlike her usual swara rendition.
Viruttam included a little known raga Priyadarshini and the next ragamalika piece where raga names were integral in the sahityam was outstanding.
She was excellently supported by Sanjeev and Sivakumar
On the whole ,it was an excellent concert

There were a lot of good concerts competing for attention on this day - Sanjay, Sowmya among others...was a difficult choice.....

Lji,
Can you check if karuNai madi tavazhum jaganmOhinI (the ashTarAgamAlika composition) is a composition of NS Chidambaram? I have it as a composition of Sri. S. Kalyanaraman's.

My list also shows S. Kalyanaraman as the composer (no reference available though).

karunai madi is a composition of N.S.Chidambaram but set to tune by S.Kalyanaraman.
This was announced by the artist.I have listened to another such composition Shanmukaha Priya Nayaka (similar Ragamalika ) of N.S.Chidambaram set to tune by S.Kalyanaraman from gayathri Girish last year in another concert

Thanks, pallavi. He also composed the other aSTarAgamAlika piece: 'nIdAn tuNai nIlAmbarI, nIlakanThan manOharI' - I have heard both Gayatri and Sri Kalyanaraman render it.

Gayathri did not sing shri mAtrubhUtam. The concluding piece, after karuNai maDi tavazhum jaganmOhini was shri ve.nkaTa girIsham AlOkayE in suruTTi.

Thanks Nivedita for the correction.
Too many concerts within short time frame lead to such errors.
Thanks for the correction and the final song of the concert.

I didn't understand this bit. Kantiki sundara is the usual place for neraval in this krithi.

Mohan

The only difference in the neraval was choice of more words - I have come across nerval of "kantiki sundara taramagu rupame" so far.
Gayathri Girish added to these the next few words "mukkanti nota chelegi namame"
and connected it to thyagaraja intane .... which was different.
