The following item in the Hindu's Arts Diary was a very pleasant surprise this morning. Would be too much of a co-incidence if turned out to be someone other than our esteemed forum-member! Unfortunately, I was out of station for much of the day - surely someone attended it?

Arasi, congratulations and details please!

Yes, Indeed, it is our very own Arasi - member turned composer. Another member-turned-composer!
Arasi has been composing for many years now. Her compositions have been presented in concerts previously (by Sumitra Nitin and Smt. Jayalakshmi Santhanam - Smt. Santhanam sang one of her compositions in the Cleveland Aradhana that was appreciated by all there!), but this is the first time a CD with all her compositions has been brought out.
On the urging of the great musician, Smt. Anantalakshmi Sadagopan, a relative, Arasi has chosen 14 (a baker's dozen+1) of her compositions to be presented in this CD. The songs have been rendered by Sumitra Nitin, Smt. Sadagopan's grand daughter.
ON BEHALF OF OUR FORUM I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND OUR HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS TO ARASI! HOPE THIS THE FIRST OF MANY MORE SUCH!
I am sure that Arasi's compositions will be like Bharati's description of vaLLI's speech (Sollinai tEnil kuzhaitturaippAL). Kji may have attended the release.

Congratulations Arasi maam.

A question....
Would'nt she be a composer-turned-member if she has been composing before rasikas.org? or lets just say composer-cum-member (or vice-versa)

We can all buy the CD!
I think Giri Traders will have supplies. Kji will know details about where the CDs will be available.
Sridevi,
You are correct - she is a composer turned member, just like DRS...

WoW! Another "ambujam" Krishnan in our midst. She really kept it a secret all along, didn't she? Kudos, arasi! Providence must be proud to have a citizen like arasi.

I suspected something was in the offing when she posted here a couple of days ago that she will be gone a while since the season was over in Chennai. So this was a special occasion for her to visit Chennai again.

arasi, be careful when you open the doors to this thread. All the accolades will pile upon you and you will be breathless!

Nice cmlover and you are welcome. A few corrections (some optional - those are underlined, some necessary - in bold since when rendered in other languages can indicate different pronounciation)

vAzhtu maDal

varuga varugavE varugavE
veRRi vAgai SUDi iSaipADi arasiyAy

pATTukku urai tEDi alayum rasikarai
pA#nguDan poruLvirittu magizhtiDuvAy
nATTukku tamizh paNi nalamuDan nalgiyE
iSai kUTTi paN paDaitthAy kavirANiyAy

anbuDan rasigargaL vAzhtukiROm
paNbuDan pADalai edirnOkkugiROm
inbakkavimazhai pozhiga pozhiga
naNbar idayam adil nanaiga nanaiga
pugazhuDan polivuDan niRaivuDan
iRai aruLuDan....

Necessary corrections:
These ka => ga, ta => da etc. Obviously rendering in tamizh makes no difference (unless you use qualifiers in which case you can tell), but can make a big difference in other languages.

(note: in my next update, you will be able to click a button, and it will "correct" these - i.e for tamizh krithis. Isnt that easier :)?)

Optional Corrections
The extra "t" between zh and t is not necessary - although it doesnt hurt. I wonder if it will let people overemphasizes if rendered with the extra t in other languages.

Also again in some cases if you separate the word, the intervening mei can be skipped.

More on the proceedings.
Arasi was obviously overcome by the occasion.
On quite a few occasions she was at a loss for words
thanks to the emotions involved in paying respects to so many people who were involved in the project.
It was a Pure Thamizh affair .
Brought back memories of another Speech I heard long long ago , when One of my colleagues (Muthu , a relative of MR Radha- he went onto become a big Real Estate dealer) spoke in a Workers gathering in our factory.
That was a stunning speech and I had understood only 5% of what he had spoken that day .
Yesterday I Understood only 70 % of what she spoke.
:D
Her speech was so pure that , on the rare occasion she had to fall back on an English phrase to drive home a point, the moment looked so cute.
:P

and a piece of advice for anyone who wants to meet the artist at the Academy Mni Hall , backstage.say for handing over a bouqet or other pleasantries.
It is advisable to come to the hall a few minutes early and find out which door opens into where .
If you dont want to look like Mr Bean.
Or atleast like VK did , yesterday..
:D

Congrats arasi !!!!!!! I had seen the event advertised in Hindu in the morning but never once did it strike me that it could be you.

Do you use a specific mudhra so that we can try identifying your songs when they are sung in concerts? Lakshman ji is always there to help anyway even if we are unable to.

Thanks. That was a neat attempt. You are becoming multi-talented yourself. I just wrote it at the spur of the moment. I could have improved on the rhyming of the second line such as "mangalamuzhangum kalaikkum arasi". As I was writing I hummed the tune of "adisaya rAgam.." song from "apUrva rAgangaL" movie. You can try that yourself (mahati, vasanthA, and bhairavi??)

I agree. it is inappropriate to call arasi 'madam. Try this
AMMA IS ARASI AMMA
or if you feel closer (age-wise)
AKKA IS ARASI AKKA
whatever way you read it :)
(If you didn't get it read backawards too :)

Please note I made a compromise for the word "palindrome" pronunciation by making it short in the first line and long in the last line. There is no "in-between" sound or script in Thamizh for "pa"

I tried Mahati but did not fit. Obviously I sang it in Kalyanavasantam taking the cue from your lyric. I have given a fresh try just using my imagination. Don't blame the mood since I was in it. Challenge folks to figure out the natural raga it falls into thogh it is more HM oriented :)
