RAGA IDENTIFICATION CONTEST -2019
I am happy to share the news that I got first prize in the Raga Identification contest conducted by Music Academy and TAG Centre. The contest was held in Tag Centre, Alwarpet today morning (20 Oct). Sumathi Krishnan, Secretary, Music Academy conducted the test. There were more than 80 participants. Prizes were given to three participants – all Rs 5000. I answered 38 out of 40 questions. This is the highest score so far. Prize was given by Sri. Murali, President, Music academy. Happy to share the joy with the forumites.

Balahamsa and Soolini. In Balahamsa they played Guruguha vibhakthi kriti. I could not fix it. In Soolini, they played a tamil song. I have never heard it. I wrote as Chalanata, the next melakartha raga, knowing fully well that my answer is wrong.

Re: RAGA IDENTIFICATION CONTEST -2019
There was a grand lunch after the programme for every one.
Mr. RT Chari gave all a high end head phone for hearing more of music. Then he said the Tag Centre is having a huge archive and that we can access to it and get it over pen drive at our convenience. Murali and Sumathi Krishnan also told about the Archives in Music Academy and requested all to visit and make full use of it.

CONGRATULATIONS, SIR!. Let us have a separate section 'what is the raga' , and you can play a leading role there.
Right now, I am creating a page for the ragams used by Thyagaraja Swami and I need information about the parent-scale of janya ragams ( balahamsa, bangAla, GhantA,ShuddhabangALa ,).
https://sites.google.com/site/4carnatic ... thyagaraja
( yellow background means, M1 based) ( cyan -means -M2 based)
It appears that Thyagaraja used mostly M1-based ragams. and avoided vivadi-scales, even in the M1 sets.
Thank you.

@rajeshnat
I am not duplicating any work.
and I am not interested in ALL the ragams used by all the composers.
I have a specific aim in creating the site.
My site, though of a mere hobbyist, aims to give
a) historical perspective and ordering of information about the VENERABLE composers of CM.
b) best available biographical sketch
c) an attempt to apply, the simplified HM notation and avoiding jargon.
d) A list of kritis of the Trinity from generally authentic sources like sangeethapriya
e) To show that the aim of CM , Purandaradasa through the Trinity and their direct disciples, is surely bakthi-oriented. and not entertainement-oriented or skill-oriented. ( In fact, Thyagaraja Swami severely chided his disciples, whenever, they strayed into dance music...We cannot understand the spirit of the Trinity unless, we trace the influence of Bajan Sampradhayam of Tanjore delta , so nicely covered in sreenivasaraos blog. )
https://sites.google.com/site/4carnaticmusic/home
( my note in the page says it all)
This lineage meticulously followed the guidelines in creating their compositions. Rarely gave importance to dance/ entertainment music. best left to HM.
In the particular link given I am listing the ragams in alphabetical order as used by Thyagaraja Swami alone. The link given by you , has already been used by me. and I am afraid that the specific ragams info asked by me, will NOT be there.
I have googled enough. Even discussions on NarayanaGowla in rasikas do not give the info.
I am trying to gather information to confirm my conviction that Thyagaraja Swami and Shyama Sastry carefully eschewed vivadi ragams. and Dikshitar also, handled some vivadi ragams in a creative way, so that the ban on vivadi scales is not violated.
My work is UNIQUE.

RSR,
Looks you want to group all content with composer as a main first level filter. It will be useful and is quite Unique . For eg in one page you have listed year of birth and year of death of 27 well known vageyakkaras . That link is also useful.Thanks for your clarification.

@11
@rajeshnat
Thank you. I think, you have missed the important page there.
https://sites.google.com/site/4carnatic ... -reference
----------------------------------
As for my request for info on parent scales of Thyagaraja kritis, I got them in a jiffy, from
http://carnatica.net/ragalist/index.htm
------------------------------------
How much time I wasted last night searching in wiki and such!
------------------------------------
I am alarmed at the permission given by Music Academy for using pen-drives to copy from the archives! In my humble opinion, it is a recipe for disaster. Pen-drives are notorious for introducing virus. The entire archive will be wiped out. Let them upload the zip to their own website.

Congratulations to my dear(est) friend CRama who has won the first prize in the contest with a super score. Perhaps I was the first person whom he informed after the results were announced. Wish him more laurels.

Re: RAGA IDENTIFICATION CONTEST -2019
I informed Mr S Nageswaran about CRama winning the TAG contest. He was very happy. He is extremely uncomfortable in the insanely cold and wet 17th floor residence of his in Bengaluru and wishing to rush back to his dear Chennai's warmth on 4 Nov.

Sachi,
Thanks for news about Nageswaran. Hope he's doing well. His good old Chennai will energize him, no doubt.
