Oh mother (tAyE), the mother (mAtA) of the entire (sakala) world (lOka), the exalted (uyar) [1] mistress (nAyakiyE) of the divine (tiru) town of Mylapore (mayilayin), why do you still (innum) indulge in this contentious dispute (vAtA) (with me)?

pAdAravindam alladu vERenda bhAgyamum virumbA tozhumban enniDam jagan-(mAtA innum vAtA...)

(Oh mother of the universe, why do you still indulge in this contentious dispute) with me (enniDam), a base person (tozhumban) who doesn't desire (virumbA) any other (vErenda) fortune (bhAgyamum) except for (alladu) (your) lotus (aravindam) feet (pAda)?

Ezhai endan muRaiyIDu undan iru sevigaLil vizhAdaden tIvinaiyO
pAzhAm at-tIvinayai vEruDan kaLaindeRiya tiruvaruL tiRan illaiyO
tAzha vizhum enai mElum vizhaviDudal dharmamO iduvum varmamO
tALinai SaraN ena nambinEn ammA rAmadAsan tozhum kalpaka nAyaki (mAtA innum vAtA...)

Are my (en) sinful misdeeds (tIvinaiyO), the reason why my (endan) complaints (muRaiyIDu) (the complaints of a destitute person [Ezhai]), are not falling (vizhAdadu) on your (undan) ears (iru sevigaLil)? Or, don't you have (illayO) the divine (tiruvaruL) ability/power (tiRan) to destroy (kaLaindeRiya) those (a) wretched (pAzhAm) misdeeds (tIvinayai) from their very roots (vEruDan)? Is it justice/benevolence (dharmamO) to let (viDudal) me (enai) who is already falling (vizhum) so low (tAzha) to fall (vizha) even more (mElum)? Or is this (iduvum) out of pure spite/a grudge (varmamO)? I have believed (nambinEn) that (ena) (your) feet (tALinai) are my refuge (SaraN), Oh mother (ammA) kaRpakAmbika (kalpaka nAyaki) [2], who is worshipped (tozhum) by the composer, rAmadAsan [3], (why do you still indulge in this contentious dispute)?

[1] The adjective 'uyar' could apply to the town of Mylapore as well - i.e., the mistress of the exalted and divine town of mayilai
[2] By addressing her as kalpaka nAyaki/kaRpakAmbA, the composer is guaranteeing the granting of his wishes - kalpaka - wish granter
[3] In some, not all, of his compositions, Papanasam Sri Sivan, uses a version of his real name (Ramaiah), as his mudra - rAmadAsan
