I was late and attended only the last 90 minutes of a 2 and 1/2 hour concert. bhooshAvali was rendered quite well wit a round of very good swarams . CM in general does have a sowkhyam component and a depth component , any one who balances both and considerably gives more weightage to both for a long duration in a main krithi is a perfect vidwan/vidushi on that day. To me there was a superb sowkhyam in GV's sAveri very lilting and absorbing it was but I certainly missed the depth (especially in swaras) as it was not dwelved quite long and did not give me a grand main experience.

Smt GV generally gives a lot of Smt MS amma's tukkadAs , the yamunA kalyAni was quite there. But to me her viruththam was brilliant and exceptionally well rendered , liked her finish in GKB's varuvArO.

The last 2 thillana and thirruppugazh was a mediocre rendition ,I generally have a general crib with all musicians as I donot understand as to why thirruppugazh is rendered as a micro tukkadA

Ganeshprasad play was very good , no BUGS anywhere, especially GV gave a lot of spacing in all her krithis and he had more space to play. Mridangam support was very good though the tani was mediocre. Overall a very good concert of 90 minutes.

Felt I should have not missed her keeravani which she delivered before I entered the hall, that must have been awesome.

General crib, it would be nice that they start concerts on weekdays at 06:30 pm , not at 06:00pm, of course this timing ensured more people stayed for the tani.

The concert had started with

nATTai varNam
lambOdharamavalambE - kAmbhOji - MV (short sketch, nerval, svarams)
nija mukha rAmA - kIravANi (RNS)
nI vADa nE gAna - sArangA (S)
mOkshamu galadA - sAramati (R)

i left the hall as she was singing sAramati.

tanamIdanE should have come after sAramati i guess.

It was a beautiful concert. Her Viruttam was brilliant. Some rare songs and good sowkhyam as rajeshnat says.

Incredible concert. GV was at her best in terms of song selection, emotive rendition and abundant manodharma. The 2.25 hours seemed to go by in a jiffy. Saveri had become somewhat over used during the season but this rendition stood out in its sowkhyam.

I agree. The time seemed to fly. The songs were sung with great emotion. her creativity was also very good. GV is arguably one of the best singers from the present generation.

GV is no doubt a good artiste with a very fine voice . But on this particular day, my personal opinion was that many parts were rather pedestrian. Saveri and the neraval were not really comparable to her own standards, because there have been good concerts by her otherwise.
Each one has his/her day. Maybe both our wavelength did not match that day. ! !

But I found her saveri that day to be lilting and filled with sowkhyam. yes, opinions may differ.

Sounds like a typical Smt R Vedavalli list , with nivadane gana , mokshamu galada , tanamidane , nijamuga rama , srirajagopala .
