Raag and Taal ??

What for??
Is this Hindustani Music?

We should say Raga and Tala only - if non south Indians cannot understand - we should not change to Hindustani usage

Why not then put Scale and Rhythm for International viewers?
It is so annoying
Like the fashion it has become in Hindi movies in past few years to always show Hero/Heroine worshiping in a church always - even though it is Raj and Simran or Rahul or Sapna etc and not Anthony or John or Sarah etc
Why can't they show that hero and heroine can go to temple and pray?

Now, couple of bad voices got the volume. Many name artistes not audible at all. Gowla kriti was sped up with a line paused as artistes could not make out what was going on.

Dress code is a must . In Chembai utsavam, Vidwans with traditional attire with utmost devotion is seen.

L Shankar was in fact wearing very traditional attire if you observe closely, but I think everyone got distracted by that pop artist wig (ugh). Why can't he just cut it to a normal masculine look?

Beyond that I request people to watch their language.

This year mic settings have been the absolute worst I have ever seen. I totally agree that for once I heard a violin drown out the voices.

Wearing a wig ain't nearly the worst of sins (only wearing a bad one is a crime in my fashion book), not even close. For one, I am not sure what Swamigal would think of many of those singing duDukugala yesterday, even if they wear vibhuti or namam or kunkumam or what else. Some of his other kritis are also specifically composed knowing many matters fully well. If you want to feel anger, those are things worth being angry about.

Agreed. My poking fun, was purely in Jest, how I would view him as an innocent youngster - the same age when SrI L .Shankar in his time went to the U.S - did they not go with SrI Palghat Mani Iyer. It seems like home coming for him : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L._Shankar . He is back in India says the Wiki page.

Last time I heard him was in Mardi Gras at the institute and an Album of his on Abheri later on.

His rhythmic response has turned entirely western - up and down!

I agree with Srinath. The outburst of Sunderrajan is too harsh. He was in traditional attire only. Everywhere he plays RTP or his owm composition. But he played only T kritis. He did not venture any lengthy Alapana or Kalpana swaram. Sticker to the rule. The thani neither loud or unduly long.

1) Dress code is a MUST - in any public appearance.
2) Had it been pure audio- live streaming alone, it would have been more appropriate.
3) Why this craze for photo and video?
In earlier decades, the AIR will broadcast the songs only. No visuals.

The wig was funny - but that is his choice - to wear a bright orange coloured wig on his head or wear 15-20 muzhams of malligai poo on the head
Other wise his attire was traditional only - no need to be so harsh - obviously the organisers cannot tell him that - "you can't perform here, your hair style is not okay"

2) This particular event is supposed to be a reverential offering to
Thyagaraja Swami. All the participants and organizers would do well to remember that.

The kAlapramANam for kana kana rucirA is turning out to be a huge multi node optimization problem. How to setup a feedback in between all musician nodes, so they sing close to synchrony as possible? May be Feynman's 5.6 ( ~ 6) node connectivity would solve it , which includes percussionists. . A fractional value of 5.6 ensues from fluid flow, music as bits and bytes flows like honey between the musicians . Well well, Mridangists were trying all kinds of jumping around to nillufy in "ninnu"
