My lord (aiyan)! My mind/heart (uLLam) has but one (onRE) thought (ninaindadE) – an overwhelming desire (Aval) to witness/behold/see (darisikka vENumenRu) the foot/feet (pAdattai) that danced (ADiya).

(My lord! My mind/heart has but one thought – an overwhelming desire to witness/behold/see the foot/feet that danced), as the hordes of singing (pADiya) devotees chant (bhajikka) “hara [1] OM, hara OM” (harOm, harOm ena), and as the bells in the anklets (silambugaL) around (your) feet ring (olikka) loudly (galIr, galIr ena) [2].

The caraNam describes more of the details that the composer knows will be there to behold, in addition to the feet, such as: 1) in the forest (aDaviyilE) of red (sen) matted locks (SaDai), a divine (deiva) river (nadi) called (ennum) gangA (gangai) will flow (tOyumAm), 2) a hissing (sIRum) snake (aravum) will slither around (neLiyumAm) in there (adil), 3) an angry (cIRRam) tiger (puliyum) will leap out (pAyumAm), 4) (your) throat (kaNThamAm) will be blue (nIla) from the poison (nanju), hAlAhalam it holds/wears (aNinda) 5) (your) divine (tiru) complexion (mEniyum) will be bright (oLiyAm) from the vibhUti (veNNIr) you wear (aLainda). (My lord! My mind/heart has but one thought – an overwhelming desire to witness/behold/see the foot/feet) of naTarAja (naTarAja mUrti), the beloved (nEsan) [3] of SivakAmi, praised (pOTRum) by brahmA (ayan) and vishNu (mAlum), (that danced), in (tanil) the golden (pon) hall/theater/temple (ambalam) [4].

[2] galIr is an onomatopoeic word to describe the sound made by bells
[3] nEsan literally means lover
[4] cidambaram/tillai is the ponambalam, both a temple, as well as an assembly (sabhai) where naTarAja dances, to provide energy for the universe
