Natesha Kauthuvam & Ranganjali (Jaya Jaya Shambho) in Tamil scripture

Post by Juan Bustos »

Hello everyone,

I am trying to learn some lyrics of the Bharatanatyam repertory.
Here in rasikas i have founded lot of these lyrics, but almost of them are transcripted into latin alphabet.
I am not pretty sure about the language of certain items, but i would really like to learn more about the languages of South India. So, i been learning Tamil script as well.

That's why i would be really grateful if anyone could, first of all, tell me if the "Natesha Kauthuvam" and the Ranganjali (Jaya Jaya Shambho) are singed in Tamil or not, and if you could do it, share the lyrics in the original scripture.
Also, i learned the lyrics of a Shabdam (Sarasi Jakshulu), but i realized that the language it is not Tamil, so if ayone could share with me the lyrics of that Shabdam in the original scripture (telugu) i would be really grateful too.

Thank you all,

Here is the telugu script for the shabdam,*sarasijAkshulu*

naTESa kauttuvam (taDavana muni jana...) is in saMskRtam. If you use the following page, you can get the lyrics in saMskRtam from the lyrics transcribed using the Roman script:

Thank you so much for the script, i really appreciate it. I think that it looks very short, is it the whole lyric of the Shabdam?

Thank you so much for that webpage, it looks very interesting. Thank you also for clear out the language of the Natesha Kauthuvam. The only problem is that i have founded lot of different transcriptions of the Kauthuvam, some people mark the features of the right pronunciation, but someother do not. Also, some people use the transcription like the way you do it , with capital letters and so on. But some other people do it with diacritic elements, so it confuses me more about the "original" (if that exist in fact) pronunciation.

I agree that these are problems and they get amplified when people who do not know the language try to navigate their way around these compositions. Unfortunately, I am not aware of a formulaic way to deal with this. You will have to request clarification for each of compositions you are interested in individually; but if you do post them, I am sure we will all be able to help you out.
