Sri tyAgarAja in his kRti 'sangIta jnAnamu' rAga dhanyAsi - http://www.rasikas.org/wiki/sangeetha-jnanamu - mentions the name of AnjanEya as 'nAdOpAsaka'. While searching for more information on this, I came across the following verse in the website -
http://www.tamilnation.org/literature/p ... /mp119.htm under the heading பரத சேனாபதீயம்.
There is a mention of rAga guNDaka kriyA;
the treatise is called 'anuma katakam'

Meaning of the verse is as follows -
For sub-duing the pride of disputants, hanumAn, to the melting of mountain, sang a rAga called 'guNDaga kriya', and quelled them; further, he created six thousand janya rAgas and named them as 'hanuma kataka' (or attained the name 'hanuma kataka')

The Tyagaraja kriti "Geetaarthamu" in Surati also extols Anjaneya; Tyagaraja pays homage to Anjaneya in Vidulaku mrokkeda (Mayamalavagowla) as well. Its indeed striking that these kritis (Sangeeta gnanamu included) deal with sangita sastra. "Pavanaatmaja gachha" of Dikshitar in Nattai is a really nice composition as is "Anjaneya Raghuraama doota" of Svati Tirunal in Saveri. Purandara dasa sings of "Sundara mooruthi mukhya praana" in Senjurutti. I'd love to hear about other compositions on Anjaneya.

AJjanEya as bhaktAgrEsara is extolled highly by SrI purandara dAsa and SrI tyAgarAja. As far tyAgarAja is concerned, most of his kRtis have a mention of AJjanEya. However, here, I wanted to highlight the musical aspect of which very little is known. Somewhere, I read that AJjanEya is extolled in vEdas for his musical knowledge. Is there any such reference?
Further I wanted to highlight about the specific reference to a rAga - guNDa kriya.
The work which I quoted is later than sArnga dEva - as mentioned therein. Is there any authentic information about AJjanEya's musical talents? vAlmIki rAmAyaNa does not seem to have any mention - even in the kiShkindA kANDa where SrI rAma describes the attributes of AJjanEya to lakShmaNa.
