There seems to be a controversy as to his exact time period (they say he lived for 200 years). He was one of those true yogis who detached himself from the world early on. Some of his compositions, esp. those tuned by the great Voleti like Sarvam Brahmamayam move my heart like none others. There is a melancholic quality in the emotions expressed, an awakening to the higher truth. Was he a vaggeyakara or just a composer of philosophical verses.

Though I am unable to answer to specific query - vaggeyakara or just a composer - please visit the following sites to get more information on the Avadhuta Sanyasi.

I too like this tune, sung in Madhyama Sruti........Can any rasikas, tell the raga name for this tune ??sangeetarasikan wrote:Some of his compositions, esp. those tuned by the great Voleti like Sarvam Brahmamayam move my heart like none others
Secondly, broohi mukundheti sung by MSS is equally nice.
MBK had sung a commercial cassette on Sadashiva Bramhendra's compositions. In this pibare rAma rasam is very enjoyable.

Sadasiva Brahmendra Vaibhavam - Blogpost
Dear Viewers,
A new Blogpost containing the kRtis of Sadasiva Brahmendra has been created. The link is -
https://sadasivabrahmendra.blogspot.com/
This blog contains all the kRtis of Sadasiva Brahmendra and also the two stotras by him. The popular version of Ragas in which these kRtis are sung, is given therein. However, these may vary.
The input for the kRtis and the meanings thereof have been provided by Ms Rajani Arjun Shankar. There is also a nice write-up by her in the Title page.
As usual, the kRtis are given in Roman, Devanagari, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam versions.
With sincere prayers,
V Govindan

I only asked Mods to merge and they did . The idea is to not lose your work in another thread so that in future many would not know to refer your lovely post. There is just threads on personalities - Vageyakkaras, vidwans and vidushis and recently rasikas and critics. Everything should fit into one of these 3 buckets. The approximation is just ok sir.
Thank you sir and ranjani arjun shankar.
There are usually two festivals held for sadasiva brahmendra . One is Nerur near Karur (which i have not been) and the other is in Tiruppanthuruthi(near Thiruvayuru) where they conduct yearly sadasiva brahmendra festival. I am assuming you have not gone to both places, please do make it.
Refresh my memory after Sadguru Thyagaraja blog , is this sadashiva brahmendra the second in series.

Re: Sadashiva Brahmendra
Rajesh,
Thanks for your inputs. I had been to Nerur in the beginning of this year. I saw the inscriptions in praise of Sadasiva Brahmendra, but not his own creations. I suggested to the representative of Pudukkottai Samasthanam who were conducting a big homam there then, about it. They agreed and told that they would convey the suggestion to the authorities. That's all I know.
Advaita, in its matured stage gives rise to the kind of Love - with capital 'L' - that of Radha - kRshNa - the inseparable, yet separate of their own volition, and then yearning for union, which was always there. Is it called Leela - the divine play?

There is a lovely festival that they conduct in Thirrupunthuruthi(It is just on the other side of kaveri very close to tiruvayaru) . I forgot the purana history of both Nerur and Tiruppunthuruthi - both places have very deep history. The yearly festival conducted in Tiruppunthuruthi is very nice . If you go there to tanjavur please do make a visit.

A request to Mods.... When a topic in general discussion is moved to more specific section , ( most often, justifiably) , a brief note may be given that it has been moved. The first post was by Sri.Govindan and mine was second. When I saw the thread the next day, both had vanished! I was wondering if I had transgressed any rule.
It is true that Sadasiva Brammendra wrote the lyrics and possibly sang them in ragas set by him though there is no confirmation. Most of the songs wereset to music later by renowned musicians . I dont think, itmust be made an issue. in this specific case.
The Aradhana festival is celebrated every yera in Manamadurai with utmost devotion. as already mentioned in the previous post. There is a direct train from Chennai to Manamadurai with all comforts and I request Chennai based musicians to participte in the aradhana from next year atleast and spread CM tin interior districts. It is free.

Ok, we will give a day's notice before moving or locking. If moved / deleted, we will leave a post in wake stating that it has been moved / deleted and why.
We would like threads to develop into meaningful discussions, we want rasikas to keep contributing, and we understand that there will be different views and perspectives, but if disagreements cannot be handled properly, we will step in.

Re: Sadashiva Brahmendra
I have a query; Does anyone know if Sadasiva swamy and ThAyumAnavar saint were related in some way? I have found that both were contemporaries lived in 1700-1750/75 time period but more than that any other authentic source to say they had met etc
I googled and saw a link where it hints a possibility that Sadasiva was the Guru (called 'MounaGuru') for ThAyumAnava swamigal.

Re: Sadashiva Brahmendra
Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra | sreenivasarao's blogs
.
The Southern India recognizes and adores Sadashiva Brahmendra as the celebrated composer of divine kirthanas; but not many may be aware he, in his later years , was an Avadhutha, a jeevan_muktha who lonely wandered the hills and dales; ran along the river banks, naked or semi naked, in a state of divine bliss. He , unmindful of the scorching sun, pouring rain, blowing chill winds roamed in wilderness without ever uttering a word; slept under starry sky; shunned all human contact ; and, was ever in a supreme intoxicated state.
Today he is revered not merely for his musical compositions; but also for his sublime Advaita text “Atma Vidya Vilasa”, the most favorite spiritual text of Sri Chandrasekhara Bharathi Swami the 34th Jagadguru of Sringeri Peetha.
The swami , himself an Avadhuta, a week before his passing away, parted with all his meager passions; but retained, on second thought, a copy of Atma Vidya Vilasa till the day prior to his departure.
Not many facts are known about his life. It is believed Sadashiva Brahmendra lived in the time of Sharabhoji, ruler of Tanjore (1712 -1728). This is based on the oral tradition that Sadashiva Brahmendra presented a copy of his work Atma Vidya Vilasa to King Sharbhoji, when the king called on the Avadhuta to pay his respects.
His childhood name was Shivarama_krishna . He was the son of Somasundaram Avadhani, a Vedic scholar of Telugu Niyogi origin, who lived in Madurai in Tamil Nadu. It is said Shivarama’s family name was ‘Moksham’; and his mother was Parvathy. He was born in Nerur, situated by the quiet flowing Cauvery, near Karuru. He had his early education in traditional subjects under Ramabhadra Dikshitar who lived in Tiruvisai_nallur a.k.a. Shahajipuram. There the young Shivarama came under the influence of what were renowned as the triumvirate of Bhajana tradition viz. Sridhar Venkatesha Iyer, Sri Bhodendra Sarasathi and Bashyam Gopala_krishna Sastry.
On his return, Shivarama still in his early teens was promptly married. He however, soon thereafter ran away from home never to return. He went to Tiruvisai_nallur ; and, while wandering aimlessly in the woods nearby, he met his Guru Sri Paramashivendra Sarasvati, who initiated Shivarama into sanyasa; and named him as Sadashiva_Brahmendra.
The identity of Sri Paramashivendra Saraswati is a matter of debate. Some say he may have been an Acharya of the Kanchi-peetham , guided by the suffix ”Indra Saraswathi” to his name. But; an Acharya of that name appears in the annals of the Kanchi tradition as the 45th Jagadguru who presided over the Mutt for 27 years from 1061 AD , that is about seven hundred years before the time of Sadashiva Brahmendra. The 57th(?) Jagadguru Sri Paramasivendra Saraswathi II, recognized as the author of the treatise Dahara Vidya* Prakashika , presided over the mutt from 1539 to 1586; that is about a hundred years before Sadashiva Brahmendra.
I; Sadashiva Brahmendra considered Sri Paramashivendra Saraswati as his Guru , named him as such in all his works and composed poetic works Navamani mala , Guru_rathna_maalika and Dakshina_murthi_dhyana in tribute to the Guru.
Sadashiva was an active young man , talkative and always chirping away. On one occasion his incessant talk so annoyed his Guru that he in despair called out “Sadashiva..! When will you learn to be quiet?”. The disciple promptly replied, “Right now, Master”. He fell into silence and never talked again the rest of his life. He gradually withdrew from the world, introspected and plunged into intense penance. He discarded all norms of accepted behavior, wandered naked aimlessly in the hills and along the Cauvery. He looked wild and insane. When some one reported to Sri Paramashivendra that his disciple had gone insane, the Guru was delighted and exclaimed “Will I ever be so fortunate!” He realized that his disciple was now an Avadhuta.
Sadashiva Brahmendra remained in that state; beyond body consciousness, not bound by ordinary social conventions and worldly concerns for a long period. A number of stories and myths grew around his mystical powers.
On one occasion , when he met his past associate Sridhar Venkatesha Iyer; the later remarked that it was laudable to be a mauni in worldly matters; and, questioned what prevented him from singing the praise of the Almighty. Then, Sadashiva Brahmendra saw reason in the argument.
He thereafter created a series of musical compositions in praise of :
Sri Rama:
Pibare Rama rasam,
Khelathi mama hridaye,
Bhajare Raghuveeram,
Cheta Sriramam,
Prathi varam varam manasa etc.
Sri Krishna
Smara nandakumaram ,
Gayathi vanamali,
Bhajare Gopalam maanasa ,
Bhajare Yadu natham maanasa ,
Kridathi vanamali ,
Bruhi mukundethi etc.
and of
Brahman
Sarvam Brahma maya re ,
Khelathi Brahmande Bhagavan ,
Manasa sanchara re ,
Tadvad jeevanam Brahmani etc.
His poetic signature was “parama_hamsa” . About twenty-two of his compositions have been recovered.

Sam
Your post with color combination resembles one previous poster. We alll have a responsibility to leave a good legacy . Lot of posts with written text , biographies all get submerged with your one post per day . For eg there is youtube anyone can search or google any vidwan/vidushi/vaggeyakkara . I just searched ms subhulakshmi pibare ramarasam in a millisecond i got link of what you are posting. I suggest you do only two things
1. Take your time type say another 20 posts in your notepad and save it and make one post where you can just provide the link to sites.google.com which you already have it.
or
2. Just skip these one day a post with only a link to the song and lyrics . For lyrics there is age old carnatic.com. Many are usually seeing once a week or month, i saw after a week. Most of the posts of yours is what i see is your one liner of SB, GKB, DD,NS ....
As I said after few years we all should not wade thru your "50 plus of one post and lyric" to look at the actual content . Alll these excessive few liner trivias are discouraging most to them to write .
This i see you have done for atleast 15 vaggeyakkaras and 15 vidwans and vidushis. I was intending to write this for the last few months and i thought you will stop. It looks like you will stop only after this post.
HOpe you understand , some one has to speak...

Re: Sadashiva Brahmendra
For months together, this section was monopolized by a sanskrit scholar focusing on The Trinity . All the previous topics got drowned.
In the early years from 2006, there was no easy way of sharing music. For great many years, I was just a regular reader of the posts with almost no posts by me because, i am just a learner . as i still am.
I have always felt that thousands of passive rasikas in this forum, should find the forum self sufficient.
When a composer is mentioned, a brief outline biography is useful to learners, especially, young people of Y2K generation.
As there was no activity atall, in quite a few sections, for quite a few months, i thought , bumping a few threads, will be helpful to students, especially, to those who are interested in composers who gave us compositiins in tamil. Like the tamizh Moovar, GKBarathy, Neelakanta sivan, Veda nayakam pillai
Paapanasam Sivan, Ramaswamy Sivan
.
Vocalsts like Sanjay are giving lot of importance to such tamil kruthis.
Merely mentioning the songs does not help. I know that youngsters do not find time to search for things . Some help is needed. That is the reason why I have bumped about a dozen threads long dormant.
While talking about composers, I felt that giving links to a few of their compositions , in public domain , also helps.
I am taking a nice site periscope-narada as a model. He gives introduction to the song, gives the song in Tamil script, transliteration, english translatiin and finally links in oublic domaun for a few renditiins by currently famous vocalists. This is superb as it is rather difficult to get exact tamil lyric by reverse transliteration from english to tamil.
May I also add that interest in carnatuc music among the tamil youth is confined to Chennai and diaspora. Many in foreign countries may not be able to guess the exact tamil lyric from the transliteration.
So, best fhing is to give original language lyrics, transliteration, and the music also, . I am adopting the color scheme used by RSR because it draws attention to the singer, preferably of old generation.
As for getting youtube links of specific songs and specific singer, it is not easy.
.
Anyway, i have not posted much in vocalists section.
I was just trying to bring back to life, threads on tamil composers, as this seems to be the trend.
Another role model is sujamusuc wordpress site.
I think, I have explained my position.
.
Kindly note that the site is going to seed very fsst, nobody seems to be posting ,
I hope that learned rasikas like you, would keep all the sections live and kicking,

Thank you for your posts which rekindle the interest in many old musicians.
And your painstaking effort to provide appropriate links is laudable.
