As @rajeshnat suggested in another thread, I am creating a thread in my name, here in this section.

For those who do not know me, I was an active member here for many years (probably from 2004 to 2010 or 2012) after which I have become somewhat irregular. That is when I got into playwriting and theater activities. I should mention that the Rasika forum has provided me a lot of learnig through the interaction with many people here, and I would like to thank them all. It has very deep impact in my understanding of our music and traditions, and innovations.

Thanks to, and inspired other composers on this forum such as Shrikanth Murthy & Arasi - I started dabbling in composition sometime in 2007 or 2008 - and very happy to share with you all, I have so far composed around 50 compositions in these years, and also have produced some musicals on stage with my own compositions. My compositions include geetes, Swrajatis, Varnas, Ragamalikas, Tillanas. and some dance specific types such as Kautuvams, Pusjpanjali etc.

Some of my compositions have also been sung in concerts and used in dance concerts. I have not used a signature (or mudra) in all compositions, but some of my varNas do have a mudra as "kaushikESha" which, I may use in future compositions too, if the theme suits

I hope to post my compostion recordings in this thread and will be happy to share the notations with any music lovers here who may wish to learn them, should they find them interesting.

YOu go with the name ramaprasad . If you prefer to use the handle ramakriya that is fine . In any case remove My compositions ""and : etc in the title please, Future searching will be a nightmare. My suggestion of the title is above . Take that or just put ramakriya or Ramaprasad .

Thank you for creation of your own thread . Insights on How you decided to compose , group it and possibly what were your subliminal connections to create a particular piece(that too considering you have moved away to US) . All that would also help. You do your own slicing and dicing post it here so that it stays cohesive and aggregated in one thread. I am yet to touch your latest recording of swarajathi,.Hopefully will wait in this thread to especially when you open a swarajathi. Take your time no rush you group your thoughts write and space it.

Let me kickstart this thread by one of my recent compositions. It is a sanchari gIte in the rAga amrtavarShini, and set in Triputa tALa. The sahitya is in Kannada, in a style with excessive use of samskrta words.

A geete is a composition that helps a music student to get familiar with different rAgas, after the initial swara-only lessons are over. It introduces the concept of mAtu ( sAhitya) in addition to dhAtu ( swara). This composition illustrated here too sticks to a typical sanchAri gIte style- with the sancharas mostly limited to madhya sthAyi, with each swara corresponding to one sahitya syllables (with a few exceptions to show the concept of kAruve).

The first five Avartas of the sahitya are also indicative of the swaras used in the rAga ( sa = ShaDja , gu= antara gAndhAra mi=prati madhyama , pa= panchama and nu=kAkali nishAda).

While you’re on the topic, what’s the difference between a pillari gIte and sancAri gIte?

As far as I can say, the term piLLAri gIte is reserved for the 4 gItes of purandara dAsa ( srIgananAtha, kundagaura, kereya nIranu and padumanAbha). Everything else is termed a sancAri gIte. if you go to older works, IIRC, you will just see the term gIta, and no further classification.

piLLAri is the name given to the ganapati made from gOmaya. Although not all the 4 geetes are about ganapati, it is common to call the malahari gItes i as piLLAri gIte,

Since today is Ramanavami, thought of sharing another composition of mine. a gIte, in rAga SankarAbharaNa. The sAhiya is in kannaDa and in praise of rAma. The gIte is set in triputa tALa.

As in most gItes, the gIte has a pallavi, anupallavi and followed by two charaNas that are identical in dhAtu.

Today being Chitra Poornima, when the annual rathotsava happens at my native place, I finished composition of a varNa in rAga Kannada - with the deity Keshava as the theme. This is my 16th Varna, so far.

Very well done Ramakriya. Nice varnam . There are krithis like GrahabalamEmi (T),gopalaka pahimam (ST)and few more . Taking this ragam for varnam is a great choice.

Sharing my latest composition in the raga Ananda Bhairavi, as a tribute to Tyagaraja (Today being January 6th, the day of his samadhi as per Gregorian calendar).

The sahitya is in Kannada, and praises Tyagaraja how he has brought immesurable joy to all rasikas of sangeeta.
