A good voice is no doubt an asset for any musical performance. In Carnatic Music , however, there are occasions when, by sheer Gnanabalam, a musician can coax even a recalcitrant voice to present great music. The greatest manodharma vidwan Sri Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer is reported to have said “Saareeramada padarathu, Gnanam padarathudaâ€

this is one of the concerts I was fortunate to attend.Mr.Jagan has bought out the spirit of this rare concert in full measure. It was like a lesson on aesthetic concert singing from the mandari neraval, the beautiful one avarthana swarams for reethigowlai , to the mohanam so different in content so much so that I got this feeling that I have never heard a mohanam like this before. The Atana and katu jesi following it was a revelation of unusual beauty of the raga and the masterpiece.really had the listener bound as Thyagaraja says to Rama Katu jesi naru....
Same stands for the karahrapriya with a sruthi bedam where the maestro did a foray into Senchuruti. Yes his voice was not at it's best but how can one control the flooding of vidwath a lucky few witnessed that day.
