We surely lose quite a lot of artist due to brain drain ranging from superstar Trichy Sankaran to Sangeetha, the season for sure brings them in limited limelight .Sangeetha Swaminathan is one of them for sure if she had stayed in concert circuit say in chennai she would have gone many notches . She is a student of her guru Sudha Ragunathan along with her appa karur Krishnamurthy , certainly bringing GNB-MLV lineage . For sure i like the artistic excellence of Sangeetha Swaminathan more than Sudha Ragunathan.
Sangeetha had teamed with a young sub senior vidushi in violin and Nellai Balaji in mrudangam.This was a boxed non nirvana concert ,she had to vacate at sharp 06 45 pm (5 pm start)as there was a 7pm concert both in mini and also a concert in main hall. This concert did not bring in the best of sangeetha swaminathan , her voice did not open up fully, she picked up quite an excellence (most in two prime krithis) but being a short version concert she had to store her potential for present concert than rather exhibit with this present concert.
Start in pagavari-hamsadhwani was well done for only in parts , little more gelling with kalapramanam tightness would have helped . The next Purandaradasar krithi in nattai is her paramaguru MLV favourite. Krithi had a bit unopened throat in song rendition but in neraval and swaras she showed her class. For such a short concert she could have dropped these stand alone plain fillers like Dhenuka teliyalEdu that came next - bit of touch and go stand alone rendition .
The best of her krithi rendition came in hindolam . Her best USP in general is see she holding the intensity in mandra to madhyama sthAyi with longer cycle of rendition , where her voice texture and ideas approach reminds me of one of the greatest disciple of GNB - Tanjore S kalyanaraman. Hindolam flowed so well with the lovely GNB krithi, GNB as a composer at times gave a real good run to supreme vaggeyakkaras of his generation(like say papanasam vivan) . Lovely krithi of sama gana lole in hindolam was very well sung.
THe next was a very rare krithi , i am assuming i am hearing arumuga adimayai for the very first time . I think it is in suddasaveri. PanturvarAli as a main instead of sub main is at times an interesting swap that many have done . She sang very well one could spot the MLV brigas in this famous raghuvara nannu. Neraval was well done in manasuna and so was swaras where it takes the brigha heavy inbuilt trajectory , she surely measured neraval and swaras.If she had droppped say dhenuka or suddasaveri the main would have been MAIN.
THe tani was quick closure almost like Madras A AIR morning recording , cannot say much. The last thillana of Dr BMK was a bit of roller coaster with so much of BMK laya rythm jumps and so much of mouthful of words . WIth pantuvarali intrisic speedy krithi , she could have gone a bit more with emotive rasa thillana say like Lalgudi than BMK, as that was the only tukkada. Tukkada did not have any deep emotive takeaway but still brindavani was very impressive.
The violinist young vidushi played well in parts(if some one lets me know her name along with her guru that would help) . The violinist weakness was mainly in a bit of squeaky tone and also she played quite a lot along with the vocalist which at times that robs the aesthetics of the vocalist. Mrudangist Nellai Balaji had nice patterns but was bit lacking in speed , overall he did well for significant part
