The joy of hearing Pantula Rama is very invigorating . Personally among the female artists that are singing this season (few are not seen) Pantula and Amrutha Venkatesh interest me a lot. I came bit late was she completing the shree ragam varnam.
Sobillu saptaswara is a brilliant drop for #2. It is musically rich with a nice unsagging rhythm . Apart from swaras the few rounds of cittaswaras also adds a lot of charm. She announced she will sing a rare Muttuswami dikshitar krithi next. That was in ragam kuntalam, i felt it bit resembled the kantamani. Alapana was quite detailed and the krithi had a nice bhava . Bhogeendra sAyinam was a quick closure she could have sung with bit more leash in rhthym is what i felt, i am assuming it was cindrella clock closure that was bothering her
At this point she asked in the microphone "Can the concert go till 9PM", some one from the hall in first few rows(office bearer) you can go upto 08 45 PM . I recollect few days back in the same BVN that i reviewed saketharaman sang for 2 hours 15 mins , she had to cut short by 10 to 15 mins that was possibly a bit of a drop in music where the main Keeravani was bit rationed
Her voice from the start of Keeravani turned out mellifluous . Keeravani was sung with such great feel , this ragam suits pantula a lot . Her voice has a special way to address and sustain lower registers , also her brigas are so effortless without an iota of loss of melody. Keeravani ambavani is a bit of rhythmic roller coaster krithi she did very well, especially in swaras where she preferred to sing in one or two go without fragmentation.
I knew RTP is coming that too as the percussionist was quickly wrapping their tani. Hamsadhwani is a beautiful ragam some times i wonder why vathapi is not sung where the likely answer is the MD krithi is almost like submain, so time constraint may be the prime reason. There are few shivan krithis that take up the usual hamsadhwani slot . But to hear hamsadhwani RTP i cherish a lot the experience of hearing this super ragam . THe raga alapana was clean with nice play of melodic lower and middle registers. Taanam was non metered and she did the job of keeping up the oomph. Pallavi had a nice structure , she took up 3 hamsa ragas hamsadhwani came in the front and back with hamsanarayani (appeared like pantuvarali-hamsanandi cluster) and hamsanadam sandwiched . The ragamaliga had a lovely shower of musical ideas
In the tukkadas more than the shurutti i liked the kAnada thillana , just googled to find the unannounced thillana was pantula rama thillana. The violinist MSN Murthy played very well and he kept the patterns sharp and quick to give more air time to pantula . NC Bharadwaj was full of strokes and he quickly completing the round of tani and giving space to pantula was noteworthy. BSP in kanjira played well and had a limited role to play.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 05 mins

You were no doubt impressed. Wonder if you recall that afternoon concert of hers years ago when she was new to both of us and we happened to sit next to each other, being impressed by her singing? Actually, given my age, you should be asking: do you remember?!! Of course, you would even remember the main she sang.
Thanks for bringing me close to this concert with warmth and of course, expert treatment of the content. We are indebted to you for all the time you are able to contribute in bringing us the season's flavors in the full.
