Jayashree Varadarajan--musician, guru of Sunnyvale, CA

Post by arasi »

Just as they were getting ready to commemorate the third anniversary of
Sri. Krishnaprasad at SRLKM in Bengaluru, his beloved niece who continued the family's three generations-old tradition of teaching music in the US passed away.
Condolences to the family in California.

Living on the other coast, I have only heard about Jayshree Varadarajan (and read about her on the internet). Above all, heard her students performing admirably at the Cleveland festival several times. I have also heard her speak once at the SRLKM's spring festival during one of her visits.

The past thirty years in Bengaluru, I have experienced the family's dedication to music and the teaching of it through her uncle and her aunts and the very font of the family's inspiration, her grandparents. Also in making it available for all. How to his very last days, Krishnaprasad strove to make concerts free for all! That alone speaks volumes about the family's conviction in striving to spread classical carnatic music in the community.

Her brother Dr. Yoganand, her sister and family continue the good work now. Our condolences to her family in Bengaluru as well. Om ShAnti.
