Krithin Visvesh’s Mridangam Arangetram.
On Saturday, August 8th, in Cary, NC, rasikas were treated to an evening of exceptional Carnatic music—the Mridangam Arangetram of young Krithin Visvesh, disciple of Kalaimamani Guru Vidwan Neyveli Sri R. Narayanan. The evening was anchored gracefully by Krithin’s atthai, Srimati Vasanthi Venkataraman from California, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.
Beyond the musical brilliance, a deeply spiritual narrative elevated the occasion. Krithin’s late paternal grandfather was a close childhood friend of the legendary Thanjavur Sri Upendran, even having the privilege of attending Upendran Sir’s own Arangetram decades ago. Little could anyone have foreseen that generations later, his own grandson would carry forward this very same bani. Guided and shaped by Guru Neyveli Narayanan Sir—one of the premier torchbearers of Thanjavur Upendran Sir’s lineage—it felt as though a divine circle was closing on Saturday, with the grandfather's blessings undeniably present as Krithin’s sollukattus resonated through the hall.
Krithin’s absolute devotion, disciplined commitment, and humble reverence for the art form were evident in every single stroke. The senior vidwans on stage generously created a warm, encouraging space for the young mridangist, allowing his talent to truly shine while guiding the concert with veteran mastery:

Saveri Varnam & Naattai: The concert opened with a crisp Saveri Varnam, immediately establishing Krithin’s steady laya precision, followed by a bright, invigorating Naattai piece that set an energetic tone.
Gowri Manohari (Gurulekha): Krithin showed remarkable sensitivity here, supporting the sahitya contours with balanced weight and maturity.
Panthuvarali (Aparama Bhakthi): A deeply meditative rendering where the mridangam accompaniment elevated the devotional intent of the composition.
Poorna Chandrika (Telisi Rama): A brisk, lively presentation that injected vibrant momentum into the mid-concert segment.
Shankarabharanam (Mahalakshmi Jaganmatha - Main): The centerpiece of the evening. Set to Misra Chapu, Krithin took center stage for his Thani Avarthanam. His execution displayed the signature Thanjavur bani aesthetics—crisp clarity of stroke, imaginative patterns, pristine koraippu exchanges, and a grand, perfectly calculated korvai that brought enthusiastic applause from the audience and senior artistes on stage.
Finale: A moving ragamalika virutham transitioning through Behag, Sindhubhairavi, and Brindavana Saranga led seamlessly into Kaliyuga Varadhan. The concert concluded on a jubilant note with a brisk Khamas Thillana.
It was an Arangetram that excelled in artistic discipline, tradition, and heart.
