The sisters presented a very good concert. "ranganAyakam" was sung with a lot of involvement. The alapana of sunAdavinOdini was very well executed. Requests from the audience started arriving on stage in the form of scribblings on small pieces of paper of different sizes and shapes much before even the main song started. I just lost count of how many such requests came in. There was minimal loss of bodies with almost full house attendance till the very end of the concert. The sisters sang both the pre-tani chaste classical part as well as the post-tani tukkadA part of the concert very well. They seem to have mastered this art of delivering one hit after another in the post-tani part which the people in the audience just lap up. "srI ranganAthanin sEvai kANa", a song I like a lot, was one of the post-tani items. I am hearing this song today after a long long time and simply loved the way the sisters sang it, especially the pace.

Sri M.A. Krishnaswami who is kind of an asthana vidwan for the sisters played very well. The percussion team was a very strong one. Sri Patri Satish Kumar, who is one of my favorite mrudangam artists, played so beautifully for all the songs. He would follow the songs well and would slip in a few calculations here and there very subtly. If the sisters put some good kOrvai to finish the kalpana swarams, he would immediately use a portion of the same with good improvisations to play the ending for the song. Along with Sri Sundar Kumar, he played a delightful taniavartanam which had a chatusra naDai and a kuraippu in tisra naDai. As usual, he improvised the end kOrvai so that it beautifully merged with the start of the song.

#7 is part of a CD titled shrI venkatEsha suprabhAtam (tamil) and for all the songs the composer's name is given as L.Krishnan. Is he mridangist Arun Prakash's father?

Yes Lji. He is.

But then I thought he would have just set the music for the song. I don't know who wrote the song originally.
