The lyrics posted on the website are missing the first line of the charanam:

IIRC it is 'mAra janakam mAdhava nAmakam, marakatarangam madhurabhASiNam'

Couldn't agree more bharath. This whole kriti is full of great places to sing niraval.

'shrI ramA sahitam, shri chakra dhAriNam'
'dEvEndra vinutam, dInadayAkaram'

Such a great compsition!

You are right, Prashanth, the first line of the charaNam is not there, and it is one beautiful line too.
While shrI ramA sahitam, shri chakra dhAriNam is very descriptive, dIna dayAkaram is perfect for neraval in bringing out the beauty of the rAgA and the words are soft and malleable. I have heard AriyakkuDi, KVN and Rajamaiyer sing it--learnt to sing it from B.R, hovering in the sidelines while others in the family learnt it from him with seriousness.
Namakkal Seshaiyengar, Poochi's disciple, once asked my aunt what kritis she had learnt of his guru. When she mentioned shrI venkatEsam, he rendered the kriti in an old but steady voice with joy.Though I was a playful child and didn't realize the preciousness of the moment, I do recall clearly the way he sang nIrajAsa nanutha padam, nAradAdi gaNAspadam (the madhyama kAlA) first ever so slowly and then faster. I even remember his voice!

Of the so many compositions in Thodi, this song has a special charm being very melodious with very nice lyrics which makes it very attractive. Any one listening this song, will get a feeling that he should also sing this song! (Yesterday in a get together, I did sing this song.)

It will be nice if some one can u/l this song sung by Ariyakudi/KVN or provide available links in sangeethapriya.org ?

What a great point arasi that 'the words are soft and malleable'. I never even thought about that! That's the difference in the thinking of a composer, I suppose! :-). Thanks for sharing your memories about Sri Sesha Iyengar.

I simply love this song. It is so melodious and grand and the words so dignified. I can only remember Sri KVN to give this song the delicate and fine treatment it deserves - somehow this is not seen too much on the concert stage these days apart from Sri TMK.

What does the expression, "dIrAgraganyam," mean?

dhIrAgragaNya (dhIra+ agragaNya) means "THe foremost among the brave/valiant"
