Sorry for asking again, but I understand there are minimal distinct differences between these two rAgAs. One is the use of n1 for the former and n2 for the latter (maybe I'm mistaken). Was wondering if someone could clarify. Wondred whether I could ask for brief audi clippings that make this distinction clear.

Hi

BrindAvana SArangA and BrindAvani are technically one and the same. They employ the same scale:

Arohana: Sa Ri3 Ma Pa Ni3 Sa
Avarohan: Sa Ni2 Pa Ma Ri Sa

If you listen to songs in the two raagas you will be able to tell the slight nuances in which the sancharas are rendered that bring about the subtle difference. The difference lies in the way the raagas are handled.

Ex of songs in Brindavana Saaranga- Rangapuravihara, Soundararaajam,

Ex of songs in Brindaavani - Dhim Thanana (Thillana by DR M. Balamurai Krishna)

Hope my slight idea on this was helpful to you!

I suppose you meant R2. And doesn't BS have G2 on descent?

Hi kmrasika.

Browse this link . It will prove helpful to understand the slight use of the Gandhara which is made in the Krithi. Also in the explanation they say Brindaavana Saaranga (aka Brindaavani). In some other places their scales are slightly diff owing to the Gandhara.

Wats ur take on that rasam?

What is this prayoga then:

S M1 P N2 D2 M P N2 S

(Recall the background music in MuthukkaLo KaNgaL)

No. Atleast to the best of my knowledge.
But I have heard people using this N2 D2 M P N2 S while singing the raag.
Might be that it could be "misra-brindavani"!!
