Composer for gita in begade?

Place to go if you want to ask someone identify raga, tala, composer etc or ask for sāhitya (lyrics) or notations or translations.

This lovely gita is in Begada raga set to triputa tala:

"sarasvati nanna naalige yalli kuNisali
avaLanugraha dinda nanna mukhadali
maadhurya sree lalita vachanangaLu janisuge
avaLanugraha varada vaalmIkimuni
peLdanu sree raamana shubhacharitra"

Could someone please confirm whether it has been composed by Purandara dasa. Thanks,

What is the reference? It does not carry his mudre for one and also I could not find it in the book containing all his available songs. The style is like that of poetry/verse. But there is no discernible prAsa. Sounds more like an introduction in a yakShagAna.

I tried dasasahitya website but the site is not opening at all. Says its an invalid request! Has the URL changed?

Hmm. The mAgaDipura gIte right? gItes are really beautiful in that the music and sometime layers of meaning are embedded in very simple language. Like this gIte being discussed here which is in elemenatry kannaDa.

Posting some corrections with ? and the meaning line by line:

sarasvati nanna naaligeyalli kuNisali (kuNiyali?)
avaLanugrahadinda nanna mukhadali
maadhurya sree lalita vachanangaLu janisuge
avaLanugraha varada (paDeda?) vaalmIkimuni
peLdanu sree raamana shubhacharitra

Let saraswati dance on my tongue
With her belssings, in my nouth
sweet and delicate words come to life
Valmiki, who was favoured by her
narrated the auspicious story of Rama

We never get to hear gItas in concerts. Would be nice if we could start a thread on gItas-offcourse if some are willing to render. I learnt several but cannot recall many of them. Any willing members?

Yes, this is a gItam of ShrI purandara. I have the notation; pls provide e-mail id so I can dispatch it. Thanks.

Other than purandara, paiDAla (or isit paiTalA) gurumUrti ShAstrigaL is an accomplished composer of gItAs.

This gIte could have wrongly entered the list as purandaradAsa's and I feel that is indeed the case here.

knandago2001,
Thanks...

Paidala Gurumurty Sastrigal's compositions are all in Sanskrit - not kannaDA if I understand correctly.
