I came to know about this vidushi, just very recently after hearing few mp3 clips that Shri RAmarAj has posted in kArnAtik.com . Unfortunately I was late to miss the first varnam and miss almost most of the kAnaDA (surely both were unlucky misses). I could have not asked a better start than pantuvarAli . The swara pAtterns were excellent , she taking the sequence of swaras in a comfortable high speed.

tOdi was a very detailed one very impresssively exposing quite a lot of patterns. Her rendition of the krithi was though lacking in depth atleast when compared to alApana. Another detailed alApana in AbhEri followed(could be karnAtakA devagAndhAri too as I was able to more relate to kAyarOhanEsam than nagumomu) .I heard for the first time the krithi shree nanda gOpAla ,with me particularly impressed with the cittaswaras.

raNgapura vihaara requires an immediate supersonic takeoff(courtesy msamma) , but unfortunately Smt rAjee provided only a plain airbus take off, leaving that aside she rendered the krithi quite well with a lot of hairpin bend alankArams in brindAvana sArangA .The takeoff of raNgapura vihaara helped her to cruise into brOva bhaaramA and was excellent . A very usually calm and serene sringeri temple ,suddenly resembled as an ayyappAn temple. with all our ears punctured with that "automated bell and drums beat" that is nowadays kept up in all temples .The vidushi with her bahudAri swarams really did an excellent job, just went on and on with the automated drums for close to 4 minutes and just wrapped well .

The alApana of the day was her detailed 12 minutes of simm madhyamam . No traces of keeravAni was ever felt by me . She took a fairly forgotten krithi ninnE nammiti. The neraval was in the usual lines "pannagEndra sayana" was not that great . Swarams were just completed certainly not with much patterns .

TukkadAs were all fantastic, started with the ashtapati in the anupallavi line "yadamitA vana mAlina sakhi", bringing in the right emotive appeal . GKB's sAmA reminded me of shri semmangudi's way of rendition. Another usually forgotten aaDaadu ashangaadu was rendered very well . Particularly liked her hanuman chAlisA rendition in kAthanakuthuhoolam.

The violinist Satish kumar (sishya of MSG), played well, but unfortunately did not get the right tonal quality.Manikandan (sishya of KM) played well for all the krithis, didnot much hear in tani as I away to attend a call. I walked up to Smt rAjee to ask who is her guru .She said she learnt from TR balamani(Bombay Jayashree and shankar mahadevan used to learn from the same guru) and shri TMT (which I could spot in her SAmA and pantuvarAli as semmangudi style guided her)

Rajesh,
AnjanEya matipATalAnanam
kAncanAdri kamanIya vigraham
pArijAta tarumUla vAsinam
bhAvayAmi pavanAnjanA nandanam is a SlOkam (in sanskrit)...was it followed by verses from the hanumAn cAlIsA (in hindi)? The cAlIsA in it's entirety may be too long (40 verses)...it is a composition of gOswAmI tulsIdAs....in the phal Sruti is the request 'tulsIdAs sadA hari cErA, kIjE nAth hriday maha DEra'...

Just wondering why she did not sing in her thukkadas any of Ramraj's? You could have asked!
Is tradition still ruling the roost :)

Rajesh,
Thanks for the unique ride, hairpin bend and all, and for rendering your own brand of commentary. I have heard my namesake's concert once, and was impressed...

I was expecting alteast one tukkadA of rAMarAj . May be next time I will have a chance to explicitly pass a chit .

ravi,
IIRC,There was no slokham rendition in kathankuthuhalam, only a krithi. I went and asked her, she said it is hanumAn chAlisA , possibly she could have sung few lines from what you mentioned and few lines of hanumAn chAlisa as a krithi.

The raga. The kriti started with "Anjaneya".

AnjanEya matipATalAnanam
Just note that it is
AnjanEyaM ati pATala Ananam (AnjanEya one with a red (like the pATala flower (Bignonia Suaveolens)) face!
AnjanEya matipATalAnanam will mean (AnjanEya with a red mind)
Hope it was sung right :)
