She won the concert competition, a wee slip of a girl, and was selected to perform in the "Winner's" slot. One of my friends recorded her Kiravani, which was rendered with alapana, neraval and swarams, which I am posting for the benefit of others.

I am glad that I was a witness to this cute and wonderful concert!

The pieces she sang were

1. EntO prEma-suraTi varNam
2. gaNarAjEna rakSitOham - Arabhi (S)
3. vINA pustaka dhAriNim - vEgavAhini
4. parama pAvanA - ranjani
5. kaligiyuNTE - kIravANi (R,N,S,T)
6. bAmarO (padam) - kEdAragauLa

It was hard to believe the kid was only about 10 years old!

This happens only in USA :( Why doesn't this happen in India ? Kids of 9-10 sing so amazingly here. I am so going to cleveland next year.

shreekrishna, it certainly does happen in India. There are many young talented kids there as well - such as Master Anantakrishnan in Chennai and Miss Vimarshini in Bombay.

In the past we have seen child stars such as Ravikiran, U. Shrinivas and Shashank.

uh... like mohan said, it does happen in India, and that too, on a much larger scale. For example, look at Ramji's Isai Mazhalai program...

You are right. I have heard such good things about the singing by those children. Ramji (though I would like to think of him as suswaram Ramji) has to be appreciated for the isai mazhalai program.

MS Ananathakrishnan and Sudhindra on mridangam accompanied her. She is a disciple of Sri PSN, but also under the guidance of Chitravina Narasimhan and Prof TRS, I think perhaps for this concert

Are there any other recordings of Sahana's singing? Does she give small programs for different musical communities here in the US?

Thank You mahesh33- the new link is working. I had the opportunity to hear the audio file. Sahana sounds so cute but very mature for her age. I look forward to reading more reviews of this young prodigy's music. How does she learn from PSN mama? She goes to Chennai regularly to take class?

Is MS Anantakrishnan related to Sri MSG?
He is MA Sundaresan's son, MS Anantaraman's grandson.
