What a fabulous concert! From start to finish the concert exhibited high quality and there was not a single point of time when I could say that the concert was slacking. There was variety in ragams - rare ones which had everyone had attempting a guess - Mandari song had Amritavarshini and Kamavardhini built in - and common one which even I could identify. There was variety in composers. The concert ended just when you thought it is going very good
Each and every song in the list was rendered beautilfully and was very moving, To me, Madhyamavathi was easily the best. From what I have downloaded from Sangeethapriya, this ragam seems to be Ramnad Krishnan's favourite as I see each and every one of his concert seems to have a rendition of Madhyamavathi . Gayathri + Nagai Sriram's rendition easily ranked at the same level. The Alapanai , the song and especially the swarams that followed were simply awesome.
RTP in Dharmavathi was brilliant. The ragamalika swarams followed very quickly and not every ragams was handed over to violin for elaboration. I particularly like Thanam part. I would have liked the mridangam to have followed the thanam but it was not to be.
Nagai Sriram played wonderfully and I heard people passing wow! comments on his playing. Mridangam support was good. He seemed to take little moment to catch to the changes in the song flow but once he caught on he played along very well
The last Atlanta concert - that of Carnatica Brothers - brought in widely varying and contrasting responses. How about this time?

Thanks. Apologies for the horrible mistakes in the kritis. I am a beginner. Hopefully I will learn over time.

Gayathri announced about this before the song. I must have noted down wrongly. So is Kuntalam the equivalent of Kanthamani in asampUrNa mELa - like Kashiramakriya and Kamavardhini ?7 - Sri Sugandhi Kuntalambike - Kuntalam - - Muthuswami Dikshithar

Yes. With a difference. kASI rAmakriya and kAmavardhini happen to be pretty much the same rAgas while kuntaLa and kAntAmaNi have difference in scales.sramaswamy wrote:Gayathri announced about this before the song. It was a great concert by Gayatri Girish and her able accompanists. To me RTP was the best and the concert was well planned. The kuntalam song was rare and neatly rendered.
Madhyamavathi was not the best but was definitely very good.
Vinod Sitaraman was very good on the mridangam.Nagai Sriram was his usual best.
Kudos to CAMAGA for bringing such artists to Atlanta.

Thanks to my demanding boss I landed in Atlanta but am now silently thanking him for coercing me to land up here. I have to completely agree with all the others in this forum about the quality of this concert. Mandhari, M mavathi and the rtp were indeed stunning. The flurry of ragamalika swaras was also one of the highlights for me. As for the kuntalam, I heard Ms. Gayathri sing it in her cd called"Kunthalavarali". If my co-members haven't had a chance to listen to it I suggest it is a must hear specially for the thillana in kunthalam, varali and then in kvarali.
