Smt.Gayathri Girish gave a splendid concert at the Aurora temple last Sunday. She started with an invocation slokam "Gnananadamayam devam" in Shri and continued with the varnam. Tyagaraja's Dinamani Vamsa was rendered briskly in a fast-paced fashion. A brief but exquisite kanada alapana was followed by the kriti mamava sada janani. The thodi piece on muruga was slow and bhava-filled bringing shades of thodi beautifully - the lyrics were superb and the artist paid great attention to sahitya with clear diction.
Gayathri spent close to an hour in rendering the main piece in shankarabharanam. Shyama Sastri's devi meena netri provided a good platform to bring the intricacies of the raga that had interesting kalpanaswarams to which violinist bhaskar responded beautifully.
The main highlight of the concert was the RTP in simmendra madhyamam that was excellently rendered by the artist. Smt.Gayathri's voice that had some initial starting troubles had warmed up to pave way for a brilliant RTP. The pallavi chosen was - Chandrasekara Shankara Jagadessa – Sada Dhinam Unnai Charan Adaindhen that was followed by brisks ragamalika-swaras in Naatai, Vasantha, Shanmugapriya, Hindolam, Reetigowlai, Malayamarutham, Kalyani and Bhairavi.
Smt.Gayathri Girish chose a variety of composers, rendered kritis with great bhava and presented a very enjoyable concert!
