Yesterday @ vanimahal, ramji's isaimazhaali and jayatv conducted a competition from 9am to 9pm. Each team (vocal/veena/flute + violin + mridangam + ghatam) performed for 45 minutes. I did not attend the concert competition . My mom attended from 9 to 3 in the afternoon. She came back home with her face in absolute delight . some no's that the kids sang were gajavadanA (sriranjani), piravA varam (lathangi) and nambikEttavar (hindOlam).
My mom gave me an invitation that she got there in vanimahal. It was very good . In the background were pictures of MVI,MS amma, mmi, ssi and ariyakudi, I could see all the teams with their names from 9Am to 9pm. The concert- competition was inaugrated by UKS and the function wrapped up with Neyveli santhanagOpalan as special invitees. If time permits, I will type all the names of the kids . Incidentally I could see few kids were violinist for few teams and were also vocalists.
Can someone who went to vanimahAl follow it up with a writeup please?:)

I listened to some of the isai-mazhalaigal at the Cleveland Aradhana. There were 5 kid-artists (mostly in their teens) who are being groomed by senior artists. All these kid-artists were spotted, identified and nurtured through the Isai-Mazhaligal program.
At Cleveland, each kid-artist had about 30 mts. Each chose a specific raga that they elaborated through an alapana followed by a kriti, nerval and kalpana swara.
Here is a recollection of what they sang.
- Bharat Sunder rendered a brillinat harikhamboji followed by Tyagaraja's Enta Rani.
- Vidya (Hope I got her name correct) rendered a moving Varali with Eti Janmamitira.
- Dharini took Thodi as her piece. I dont remember the kriti.
Sudha & M.S Ananthakrishnan were the violinists accompanying these artists. I dont recollect the name of the mridangam artist.
I was amazed at their expertise and their presentation. The Isai-Mazhalaigal program seems to be doing a great job in identifying, training and promoting master musicians of tomorrow.
The isai-mazhalaigal who performed at Cleveland are currently touring USA and I look forward to their performance in Chicago this weekend.

A mother, whose young son was attending a boot camp in the mountains, received a letter from the organiser of the camp about the progress of John, who, according to him was doing extremely well, very pro-active, very courteous, courageous, very deligent etc etc and how proud the organiser was to have him in the camp. The mother wrote back to the organiser to say...."I am extremely delighted to hear about the positive achievements of John, but, would the organiser, please, advise her about the development of her son, Jack ?"
