The kutcheri was scheduled to start at 7.30 pm, but started 20 mins late due to a dance recital. Tiruvaroor Shri Vaidyanathan was supposed to have played mrudangam today, but somehow he couldn't make it and Shri Sankaranarayanan substituted him.
Shri Gurucharan gave a short, satisfying recital. He started off with a nice kriti and ended it with a good round of swrams at "sAma vEda sAram". Next came a slow but moving rendition on sahAna, followed by the tamizh kriti. Shri gopinath's response was nice but his violin was scratchy at times. With a filler in jayanthashri, the vocalist launched into pUrvikalyAni. The alapana was average with standard sangatis and phrases, though there were some nice patterns woven in between. Shri Gopinath’s response was quite good. The kriti was rendered with a lot of bhavam and neraval was done at “mInalOcanIâ€

I have noticed that the sahana piece, cittam irangAdEnaiyyA, is featuring quite often on concert lists these days.
