CAMAGA hosted the concert of Shri P. Unnikrishnan, accompanied by Shri Vitthala Ramamurthy on the violin and Shri Arun prakash on the mRdaMga. The song list for the 3 hour concert is as follows:

P. Unnikrishnan, one of the few artists who enthralls both the cognoscenti and the laymen alike, presented a wonderful concert here in Atlanta. Few exciting points during the concert were....
-- Scintillating mElkAla svaras for sogasujUDa taramA.
-- During the AlApana of for the main piece in rAga tODi, he very briefly ventured into mOhana, hindOLam and ShaMkarAbharaNam via grahabhEdam.
-- He was very kind enough to oblige the request of a rasika by singing a beautiful pallavi in bilahari.
One issue during the manOdharma portions was the acceleration and deceleration of the tALa. Other than that, it was a perfectly delightful concert.

Whether he sang well or not, was a varied opinion. There were those who refused to attend the concert. And then those who attended and felt that they could not find any difference between his 'Alapanai' and "Swarams" and that he sang just monotonously and without any involvement. And many others who were surprised that the concert was better than what they had come prepared for.
I personally felt it was very good till the tukkada section. All the songs were performed very nicely. I have not heard much of kannaDagauLa . And I found it to be very interesting and well rendered. Both Violin and Mridangam were exceptionally good. Arun Prakash was keenly focussing on the Unnikrishnan's every movement and played accordingly. Especially he played at the right volume so as not to drown the not so powerful Unnikrishnan's voice.
And then the Tukkada section. He seemed to just breeze through them as if they were meant to fill up time. He even stopped the concert to make the announcement. And what was it? He first thanked 'CAMAGA' for organising the concert and then ...........
he said 'my CDs are for sale' at the back Please help yourself! How about that?
However, you could not but agree that P.Unnikrishnan was a star that day. Ladies were there to 'see' Unnikrishnan, Youngsters to listen(?) to the film playback singer and many others who do not normally make it carnatic music catcheri. He was even interviewed after the concert, by a youngster for a local magazine.One friend of ours repeatedly kept asking whether we are sure that this is going to be Carnatic music only and not janaranjanga padalgal before the concert. STAR power certainly in action

Tastes differ, and reading your post, it seems as though he has catered to all different tastes. A good turn out, for whatever reasons. A full house is always nice, both for the performers and the audience.
As for Arunprakash, he is very pleasing, especially when it comes to paying attention to the vocalist and to playing just at 'the right volume' ...

I could not make it to Unni's concert, but a couple individuals who made it told me the same thing...it was almost as if he was humming along with Vittal's violin rather than make an effort to pronounce the sAhityam...
The organizers all over NA are real happy tho, concerts have been well attended!

I was at the concert until the end of RTP. I felt that he constantly sang offbeat for most of the pieces. It's one thing to sing offbeat on some of the sangathis for a variation and then it is a different thing to sing offbeat all the time. Fortunately, the pallavi was executed better.
