10B. venkAtachala nilayam - sindhubhairavi - PD

11. slOkham shree venkAta nivAsAya + mangalam kOsalendrAya + ahObilAsaya - shuruTTi -??

I was late missed the first one ThyagarAjar's KoluvaiunnaDE (bhairavi ). Only heard the last few minutes of mOhanam. A very good alApanai of chakravAkam followed. Smt ramaamurali rendered the sugunamulE very well. The swara patterns were quite good, though the neraval was not too exhaustive.

The rare begadA was nice. The emotive appeal that lalitha generally generates in this master piece hiranmayeem was somewhat not matched by Smt ramaamurali. The shuruTTi krithi was just ok. The alApanai of kalyAni was lovely, but her neraval was just ok .THe swarams of kalyAni was lacklustre.

All the tukkadAs were good , especially liked her slOkham , her hamsAnandi and sindhubhairavi were very impressive . The popular dAsar krithi was quite good.

The violinist bombay anand(disciple of A kanyAkumari) played very well and did have a good shruthi suddham. The mridangist delhi sairam (disciple of tiruvArur bhakthavatsalam) played good , though his tani was a bit short .The concert was advertised as 6 to 8:30 pm , but the artists decided to wrap up at 8:20 pm , despite having a 10 minute speech by the patron of the sabha Shri SrinivAsan.

Well I am sure , you would all be about to ask me who is Smt ramaamurali(aka janAki is). I did not know anything about her till the sabha patron talked .She is the disciple of Smt Mani Krishnaswami . She was/is also a journalist of Shruti magazine .Overall an average concert.

The list is a good one. Begada being rare... hmmm - it is quite often handled by all artists.

I meant the begada krithi, certainly begadA is not rare. Certain there was ambiguity in my first post, stand corrected.

rajeshnat,

Sriyah kAntAya kalyANa nidhayE - SrInivAsa mangaLam - SrI prativAdi bhayankaram aNNan svAmi

mangaLam kOSalEndrAya - SrI rAma mangaLam - Srimad vara vara muni (SrI azhagiya maNavAla muni)

ahObilESAya mangaLam verse - navanArasimha mangalam - SrI vIrarAghava vEdAnta yatIndra mahA dEsikan (27th paTTam azhagiya singar). This AcArya lived in the 19th century.

Was this the verse she chose - "SrI SaTAri yatIndrAdi yOgihruthpadmabhAnavE sarvatra paripUrNAya ahObilESAya mangaLam"?

I'm still trying to find the source of the rAgamAlika SlOka. Do you remember some more words?

I happened to see ur review of my concert. The Shlokam in Ragamalika is as follows:
Sa- Chakra Shankham Kati Varada Hastam
Swarnambaram Ratna Kireeta Kundalam
Pralamba Sutrotpala Malya Bhushanam
Namaamyaham Venkata Saila Naayakam.

The second one-Mangala Shlokam was:

Shriyah Kaanthaya Kalyaana Nidhaye Nidhaye Arthinaam
Shri Venkata Nivaasaya Srinivaasaya mangalam.

Mangalam Kosalendraaya Mahaniya Gunaabdhaye
Chakravarthi Thanujaaya Saarva bhoumaaya Mangalam.

Ahobila Guhaavaasa Vaasollaasa Nivasine
Asthu Lakshmi Nrusimhaaya Nithyasreer- Nithya Mangalam.

It was not Koluvaiyunnaade in Bhairavi that you missed, but in Deva gandhari. And the Mandari Varnam by Mysore Vasudevachar and Vandeham in Hamsadhwani too were the ones you missed.Thank you .

Thank you Smt ramaa murali aka jAnaki Lakshman. Welcome to our forums .You being once a writer for shruti magazine(not sure if you are still writing for shruti ), may be you can pen few anecdotes about your guru Smt Mani Krishnaswami in the thread,
http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1187

There is very little we all know about Smt mani krishnaswami, I keep hearing that there is a lot of sAhitya anubhavam in her music.
