The song is from the Gemini movie "miss Malini" wherein there is also a funny song that runs like " thalai valikkoru mAthirai thadumanukkoru mAthirai, thavruthalA pOttukittA darumalOka yAthirai !". This and other short movies were made as corollaries to the lavish ( Rs.Three lakhs in those days !)production "ChandralEkA" during the second world war period or soon after. An office assistant Ganesan's first film role was in this film and hence he became Gemini Ganesan.

Thx Mr SR again. I am wondering if the archives of Gemini films are available anywhere. i plan on leaving no stone unturned to find this song. why its so important is that i am preparing a video show for my mother-in-law who's turning 80 next month. and she was a "mylapore vakkil athu maatupen" in the true sense of the term. it would be great to have this song or even a clip in the show! would anyone have the lyrics atleast?

Miss Malini: a super low budget film with the prelude of the very first mini animation film of India--S.S.Vasan inspired by Disney, I presume. The cartoonist was Ananda vigaDan's resident cartoonist Thanu?
As for the song--not sure if all the lines are there:
mayilApUr vakIlAththu mATTup peNNAvEn
vairath thODu paTTup puDavai vagai vagaiyAyp pODuvEn vAram thOrum sabaikkup pOy katchEri kETpEN
inda mAmiyArai mAmanArai vechchEnO pArEn!
I will become a daughter-in-law of a (wealthy) mylapore advocate; will wear diamond earrings and many kinds of fine silk saris; will go to the sabha (MA!) every week to listen to concerts. Just watch, I would put my in-laws in their place ( I am being polite here!).
Sundara Rajan,
The other song you mention and all the rest were penned by Kothamangalam Subbu (of thillana mohanambal fame, but he was creative in many ways). The film was an excellent social comment on the changing society. Yes, Gemini Ganesan's debut film. Pushpavalli (the city gal) and Sundari Bai (the country girl) sing a couple of delightful songs. The city lass singing bale jOr balE jOr paTTaNa vAsam (it is a great life in the city with electricity, air conditioning, radio. imported canned food and all). There is a power cut, everything fails, and the country maiden sings: balE jOr balE jOr paTTANA vAsam, pArtthuppiTTEn, pARththuppiTTEn, paNAththukku nASam (great is your city dwelling! A waste of money)! MAny good lines from it including: thalai valikkoru mAthirE, thaDumanukkoru mAththirE, thavarudalA thinnuppiTTA daruma lOga yAththire! (a pill for a headache, a pill for a cold, if you mix them up, you may end up in another world); kuththAlathile iDi iDichchA coimbatore viLakkaNAiyum, thenkASiyile thEL koTTinA thiruppathiyile neRi kaTTumAm (if it thunders in thiruppathi, thenkASi would lose power)...

Miss Malini was a film adaptation of R.K.Narayan's Mr.Sampath which was made again in the 1970s as Mr.Sampath with Cho and Manorama substituting for Kothamangalam Subbu and Sundaribai.

Sounds easy. Try Mylapore Vakkeelaththu!

Kavya - I am amazed at the skills of our members, PB included. This is a song you can't find anywhere else but here...for search engines to work, everything has to be catalogued correctly. While this may have been posted elsewhere, it was probably not labeled appropriately...

Re: Need old tamil film song
Dear Friends!
I want the old song"Jagadeeswara, Swami Parameswara..". The film is "Manalane Mangayin Bhagyam". The difficulty is that in the song-directory of this film, in any blog, this song, which is the introductory part, is missing. Can somebody help, please! This is in the raga, "Hindolam", which is my favorite!
Thanks in advance. KRVRamani
