Starting off with the Abhogi Varnam, Shri AG proceeded to play vAtApi at a brisk pace. Before starting Arabhi, he mentioned that it was difficult to play Arabhi on such an instrument where Gamakas are highly restricted and he was taking care not to stray into Devagandhari or Suddha Saveri. Shri SK translated it in English for the benefit of some Westerners in the audience. Another piece of information is that Shri SK has got his doctorate!

Kapi Narayani was elaborated well and the Krithi was rendered with Swarams. Nice Hamsanandhi by both Shri AG and Shri AGV. Bhavanutha was the main piece with a detailed Alapana and Swarams. Good portrayal of the Ragam again. The Tani was nice except for one slightly unsavoury incident. When Shri MS was playing,a photographer cooly walked in, went close to the stage and started clicking. Shri MS asked him to come later. It required a second comment from Shri MS, "This is not the time" before the photographer stopped. Shri SK was brilliant as usual.

The Revathi Krithi was announced but I didn't hear it well enough to note down the exact words or the composer. I heard something like dAya rAdu. The concert was rounded off with a good Magudi.

On the whole, the concert was quite a unique and interesting one - a Jalatharangam concert. Nice to note that such Vidwans are still there to prevent the art from extinction.
