Sloka to precede Sogasuga?

Place to go if you want to ask someone identify raga, tala, composer etc or ask for sāhitya (lyrics) or notations or translations.

I am looking for a short slokam to sing as a viruttam prior to the sriranjani krithi sogasogu mrudanga tAlamu.

Any suggestions?

Good try chalanata! But there is no action verb in the shlokam!

I would recommend the following (which was created by Ravana and is known as 'rAvaNak~Ritashiva tANDavastOtram'

jaTA kaTAha sambramaM
bhramannilimpa nirjharI
vilOla vIci vallarI
virAjamAna mUrdhani |
dhagad dhagad dhagad jvala
lalATa paTTa pAvakE
kishOra candra shEkharE
rati prati kShaNaM mama ||

The rhythm is indeed bewitching! Render it slow first 'aalaapana style' and then with the accompaniment of the mridangist. It can be a blast.

Just providing a notional audio

and leaving it to your imagination!

That is "pramANikA" metre.

pramANikA is a variety of anuShTup metre that has 8 akSharas to each of the pAdas. The structure is

pramANikA jarau lagau |

A jagaNa followed by a ragaNa and the a laghu (u) and a guru(0).

Since the kriti talks about the difficulty of pleasing the Lord simply by musical virtuosity, I think the shloka "vipancyA gAyantI" from Soundaryalahari ( verse 67) would also be appropriate.

This shloka talks about Sarasvati playing the veena to entertain Parvati, but when Parvati, in appreciation says "Sadhu" ( "Great") Sarasvati is shamed by the sweetness in the voice, and quietly covers the veena.

mohanji - This sLOka will be apt for nAdOpAsana cE sE. I'm already imagining SrI KVN signing it in his inimitable style in bEgaDa. May be CML can give us some bliss here by "cutting" an mp3 file.
