Shri.TN Seshagopalan gave a scintillating concert at the Chicago Aurora temple on Sunday June 3 2007. Significant highlights of this concert were the alapana in gangeyabhooshani followed by St.tyagaraja's Evvare Ramayya nee Sari kriti - and the main piece - kambodhi and O-Rangasayee ran to over one hour.

The sloka that preceded otthukadu's kannallavo kriti had a garland of ragas, sung brilliantly where one raga flowed after the other in rapid and quick sucession - thilang, atana, begada, sama, madhyamavathi, pantuvarali, thodi, neelambari, bhoopalam, subhapantuvarali, shivaranjani and surutti to name a few that I could identify. Another treat was the virutham preceding "bharo krishnaiya" in mukhari, sindu bhairavi and maand.

Shri.TNS performed a harikatha program on "seetha kalyanam" last week at the Tyagaraja Utsavam and this was his second performance in the Chicago area.

Lji/rangahome,
TNS has a tillana composition in the rAgam niroshta. If it is a chandrakauns can I assume the tillana is by Dr BMK or madurai r muralidharan. Can you crosscheck

TNS Sir's Chandrakauns Thillana is the praise of Lord Ranganatha and Goddess Ranganayaki of Srirangam.

The Lyrics of the Thillana are as follows

RanganAthan Bhavani sEvai bhAva narthanam - udan

RanganAyaki darshanam gIta sangamam - vikasita

pankajAkshan pAdamalar mOksha dAyakam - pani

shankaradAsanukkarul nAdavaibhavanugraham.

Interesting that Sri TNS uses 2 different mudrAs - harikESadAsa (in the nirOSThA composition) and SankaradAsa (in this one) - paying obeisance to his guru and 'grand-guru'!

afaik, harikEsa dAsa is the mudra of Sri Sankara Sivan who is TNS' guru. the mudra sankaradAsa is that of TNS. could this be confirmed.

The candrakauns tillAnA must be by TNS. In Madurai N.Krishnan's tillAnA, the caraNa starts with shrI rAma jayarAma.

TNS announced that the chandrakauns thillana was his composition. Dvmk is right - it was on lord ranganatha.
