Once again a great concert from Gayathri Girish – who never disappoints her fans .
Concert started with a moving Pasuram on the deity of Triplicane followed by a brisk Tarangam in Ghambiranattai. This was followed by an inspiring Uthukadu composition in Kamas and very well rendered swara patterns.
First detailed raga was Sudha Danyasi (7 mts) and a not often heard composition of Ambujam Krishna (Azhaga Azhaga).Clear diction brought out the beauty of the lyrics and every one could enjoy the composition fully.Another excellent kalpana swaram followed.
When we were expecting a short composition before the main item of the evening,Gayathri Girish launched an exciting elaborate Lathangi Alapana and the popular Sivan krithi Venkata Ramana along with a lilting niraval in "Alarmel mangai manala ambujanabha dayala). She chose to skip the swaram in this piece.
Another Pasuram in Kamboji followed by a krithi I was listening to for the first time was presented – Parthasarathy in kamboji another Krithi of Ambujam Krishna (announced by Gayathri Girish)
When we were getting prepared for Tukkadas,Gayathri Girish surprised us with a beautiful, elaborate Todi alapana and a leisurely Sri Krishnam with complete Neraval and very intricate swara prastara . The Tani that followed, was compact and lively.
she just had enough time for another rare krithi in Sumanesa manjari and a kurinji piece and Kurai Onrum Illai.
Accompaniment support was very competent .
Acoustics in the temple was not the best you could get .The hall was full and even during Tani, no one moved .

The line bhaktha jana kalpa lathika karunalaya sadaya reminded me distinctly of Semmangudi Mama. I have known him saying that critics used to question the need of a Neraval and Swaram in a Swarajathi and his reply used to be ‘Indha Swarajathi Padina Bhairavi Niraiya Kiddaikiradhu. Adhan Swaram Padren’.

candiran oLiyil avaLai kaNDEn, SaraNam enru pugundu koNDEn - a fabulous composition in praise of the devi...love the way TNS (her guru) sings it - especially the part "indiriyangaLai venruviTTEn, 'yenadu' enra ASaiyai konruviTTEn" - it has the sArAmSa of the gItA as well: 'payan eNNAmal uzhaikka SonnAL, bhakti Seidu pizhaikka SonnAL'
