Vid Amritha Murali is one artist who can always be banked upon to give a quality concert and this concert was no exception. She started the concert with a kAnaDA raga outline which led me to speculate on the possibility of hearing the kAnaDA aTa tALa varnam. Instead the kAnaDA Adi tALa varnam was sung beautifully in two speeds to some very good accompaniment from Vid Erode Nagaraj on the mrudangam. Then came "shankaram abhirAmi" - a song I heard for the first time from one of Vid Balaji Shankar's audio releases. (The tape in that audio cassette had worn down because of my listening to the song so many times) Vid Amritha sang this song well and followed it up with exciting rounds of kalpanA swarams. All the other songs were rendered well too. Special mention must be made of "brOvavammA" and "krishnA nI bEganE" which were also embellished with some very good accompaniment especially from the percussion department.

Vid Hemalatha accompanied well on the violin. Vid Erode Nagaraj and Vid N. Guruprasad played taniavartanam in Adi tALam in catusra and tisra naDais for eDuppu of 0.5 beat before samam at "prakAshimpa jEsina rasika shirOmaNi" in the tODi kriti "dAsharathI".

seems to be a good concert. I heard Shankaram Abhirami by Somu recently uploaded in Sangeethapriya.
Where is the Neraval in Bhuvindasudane ?
Bhuvinidasudane-Once I heard by SSI and his breathtaking neraval in Balakunjina (I think I spell correctly). Ending of the kriti-Padamule gati Thyagajanutha... is very moving.
I like the structure of this concert. Sriranjani, bilahari and Todi..-Raagas deserve Alapana..

Sorry to talk about this kriti again. After hearing Brochevarevare and Marublaga from SSI, when I heard this it was new and different experience. Please listen to this.

Smt.Vishaka Hari-Explaining this kriti on Thyagaraja Charitram says-The last line is like-Ocean waves coming so fast and when it comes near Mahavishnu (who is resting in "PaaRkadal"), it becomes slow and touches the feet of Mahavishnu. Like this our "Manasu". Mahaperiava in his explanation on "Sindhu Haridhvallabham" (Sivanandha lahari), he explains the same thing.... "Rivers roaring in all parts of the world, but when it comes to join (kalappathu-to mix) Ocean, it comes slow and calm, because the river knows that it has reached its DESTINATION..". Sorry to be more philosophical. U can feel the same after hearing SSI's rendering.

Ram,

Thanks for that review. Looks to have been a wonderful concert...Her selections are top shelf....

GRS,

Romba Nandri for the upload! Besh, besh...TMK sings Sriranjani in the same manner, I remember the sarvalaghu swarams he had sung for Sogasuga, breathtaking...
