Mangalam
Endowed with a very pleasing and a felicituous voice Sankari Started off her concert with a Bright Varnam in Shanmukhapriya composed by Lalgudi Jayarman (Her guru). She then rendered Mahaganapathim in Nata with brisk swara passages setting off a concert in style and clarity. With an excellent swara combinations and a fitting reply by Padma Sankar the concert augured well for the listeners. Mukhari came in as a big surprise and her rendition was marked with erudition and ease of bhava. Neelakanta Sivan's masterpiece Endraikku Shiva Krupai Varumo was flood filled with rasa and bhava which made the listener immerse in the eternal beauty of the Raga as well as the bhakti oriented kriti. Padumanabhan maruga came as an excellent filler before Varali. Seshachala Nayakam was rendered with ease and swara combinations at "Aravinda" in ateeta eduppu was well conceived with patterns like 5, 6 and 7 with varieties. Padma Shankar capped her turn with much more patterns to make the turns very interesting. Again before the main piece Durga Devi in Navarasa Kannada was rendered. It has a nice Chitta Swaram for two avartas providing scope for improvisation from both the vocalist as well as mridangist.
Rama Katha Sudha in Madyamavati brough out the beauty of Madyamavati in all its splendour in all three octaves especially the mantra stayi with phrases rendered with utmost ease. The reply from Padma Shankar was very apt and pleasing too.
Myself and Murali played Tani for Arai Idam in Adi Talam with Khanda Nadai and Misra Koraippu with Mohara and Korvai.
Then came the RTP in Kalyani with the following words. The tala was quite difficult to render with Anudrutam followed by drutam sometimes confusing too.
The Eduppu of the pallavi 1 akshara after samam.
Gu Ha Vaa Mu Ru Ga Vaa Shan Mu Kha Nee (Vaa Falling on Arudi with 6 Kaarvai)
1 2 3 1 1 3 3 2 1 4 3 (6 Kaarvai)
Gu Ru Pa raa Ku ma raa
1 1 1 3 1 1 2
She sang Trikaalam and at the end I played a Mohara and Korvai for the 40 Aksharas.
The concert came to a conclusion with a Tillana by Lalgudi Jayaraman in Khamas Raga and Hamir Kalyani Tiruppugazh in Khanda Nadai Adi Tala and Mangalam.
Though the power supply went off after RTP with her robust voice she was able to sustain the listening level very nicely.
On the whole the concert was a satisfying concert and Sankari Krishnan sang the concert with heart and soul.
Padma Shankar was her best Raga essays, Kriti Following and had gud grip over laya patterns while rendering swaras.
Trichy Murali ably supported my style of playing and lifted the concert with appropriate phrases during my pauses and also enhancing the concert.

The tala was Khanda Jampa with 8 Aksharas with each of them taking Khanda Nadai making the total to 40 Aksharas. You are perfectly right. It is confusing since this tala contains Anudrutam followed by a drutam which actually takes two flat beats and sometimes it is difficult to keep track of where we are really either in Anudrutam or the starting of drutam. It is really a task for the vocalist while rendering swaras. As such Pallavi rendition doesnt cause any confusion as the lines will be there and hence there is less chance of a tala slip. Whereas while rendering Kalpanaswaras one tends to slip. But Vid.Sankari Krishnan did really wonderful art-work with no tala slips at all.

Thanks for the link. the picture seems good too. But the e-paper has a better resolution as i hv seen. Any other members could provide the picture alone would be welcome.
Thank you
