Some thoughts on the concert:

Superb concert that held the audience spellbound for close to 3 hours. Excellent support on the violin by Venkatram and very good percussive support too.

As far as I can remember, ?? in the virutham was basically hindolam with antara gandharam but I dont know the name of this ragam.

Varnam was rendered without second speed, but RTP was exhaustive with excellent thanam. Neelambari was rendered with great bhavam.

Appam,
Thank you for the review. I can picture Venkatram and Anoor as accompaniments in the familiar Ramana Maharishi School. They play very often there. Have not heard Gurucharan in that venue, though.
'varamulosagi' is Patnam's composition.

I thought "appam" is gender-neutral!
Perhaps it depends on the kind of appam!

I uploaded recording of this concert

http://www.sangeethapriya.org/~harihara ... urucharan/

The last but one song is Javali in Paras - Chelli Nene

The song selection is superb, ragas are very contrasting, and so is talas. He covered triniti compositions. The pallavi is rather simple(:-, he did trikalam though.

Neelambari song was sung excellently in vilamba kalam.

regards
hari

Gurucharan repeats the song ' yArukku thAn teriyum' in many of his concerts. I have heard him singing 10-12 times within 2 years.
