Yes...And apart from sowkhyam, they all share another thing in common: Bhakthi in music...(hope this does not spark off an argument...this is purely a personal opinion!!)

Not to worry. Bhakthi exists in many forms in humans. Even in those who profess that they do not believe in a supreme being--it can exist in some other form of substitution, I suppose. Please, no controversies. I stand to be corrected...

Hi all, I dont understand in what context you mean bhakthi.. Why i say this is becoz, you should realise the meaning of the lyrics if you were to have bakthi.. As for performers if they advocate bhakti bhava etc then they have to stop singing neraval, swaram, korvai etc..and go back to singing thevaram, thirupugazh etc. So I agree to a gentleman's views that aggressive artists perform better..

i was at that concert and I found the yadhukulakambhoji alapana subdued and aesthetically focused on the "sowkyam". Being in the sannidhi of Thyagaraja and many stalwarts in the hall, it was as if Sanjay wanted the focus to be the composer's genius rather than his own.

All this talk of sowkyam reminds me of a question featured in "Arasu bathilgal" in "kumudam" probably sometime in the late 70s

Q. Compare Lalgudi and Kunnakudi's violin playing
A. This is pure cow's milk. That is one stronng degree coffee.

Dear Vignesh - I don't agree 100%. Sangeetha Pitamaha SSI used to say, Raagas are devathas, and called Raaga Devatha.. You have to decorate them with garlands made of swaras... So, this is also a part of bhakti, if you consider raagas as devathas....
