UCO Bank Mylapore had organised two one hour concerts each of Smt.Gayathri Venkatraghavan and Sri.Sanjay Subrahmanyan to celebrate the golden jubilee of their Mylapore Branch. However following the demise of her guru Sri. A Sundersan, Smt. Gayathri was not able to make it. Instead Sanjay sang fully and what a performance it was. His voice was in great shape and the raga alapanas , krithis and swarams soaked in melody just flowed from him. The accompanists gave fine support to make a truly memorable morning.

Where did the Madhuvanthi go? Or was I dreaming? It was a rather sleepy Sunday afternoon!

rAmanai bhajithAl (mAnD ) is also by pApanAsam Sivan. There are 2 tillAnas in bhAgeshri , one is by LGJ and the other by TK RangAchari. LGJ's tillAna charanam starts with "Sundara valliyum surar" where as TKR's tillAna charanam starts with "Poi adanai meyyenru pEshittirinda "

Strange to hear UCO bank is organizing 2 one hour concerts that too with 2 senior and capable artists. For their 75th year celebrations, they may have 4 half an hour concerts and in their centenary year they will have 8 fifteen minutes concerts.I will start practicing now as I have a chance to perform in the grand centenary concert, if I live I will surely make it.

As a not totally irrelevant aside, it may be worthwhile mentioning that Sanjay's paternal grandfather, the late Shri S. Subrahmanyan was a former General Manager of UCO Bank in Calcutta. Whether the organisers from the Mylapore branch were aware of this or not, I do not know, but it seems fitting that he was asked to perform on this occasion. I am sure Sanjay's Calcutta Thaatha was enjoying the concert from his heavenly abode !

Sirsub,
I bet he did, with grandparental pride. However, like his grandson's fans, he would have liked to have heard him for a longer time, with a madhuvanthi too!
I have a feeling the organizers had no clue...

Rajesh,
When you do give that performance, I am hoping it is going to be a good three hour concert. Pity, I won't be around, but who knows? If in the other world there is the facility to log on to the forum and I get to know about your performance, I would definitely be there...:)

Bharath,
Bless you for that. In that case, allow me to be greedy. I would like good health along with longevity too :)
