Late only heard the second half of the hamsdwani(the person next to me told that he sang a slOkham) . Excellent swara kalpana in hamsadwani . SuryaprakAsh voice was bit challanged and the evarani suffered because of that . A lovely alApana followed in vasanthabhairavi , without indulging in speed he sang excellently the nee daya raadaa.
PurandaradAsar's krithi was most enjoyable only during the elaborate neraval in "garuda gamana shree purandara vittalana" for close to 10 minutes. The swaras of kalyANi was unfortunately cut short .SahAna alApanai was very detailed and excellent the krithi was just good , perhaps I did not like the succession of vasanthabhairavi , kalyAni and sahAna as I felt it was bit dragging.
An excellent 1 hour exposition of kAmbOdhi with a very high energy neraval (aDuttu vanda ennai taLLalAgAdu ara-harAvenru shonnAlum pOdAdO)and swaras was topnotch. The sindhubhairavi was sung very well especially in swati's bhajan he sang close to 2 minutes the phrase "padumanAbha prabhu" was like a mini neraval . BhimplAs finish was just ok.
The day's highlight was clearly the 9 minute viruththam of bhArathiyAr's 'manathiL uRuDhi venDum'. He sang non stop without violin return with he using every phrase of venDum of bharathi to do a beDham from one rAgA to another . All the rAgas khamAs , shenjuruTTi??, hameerkalyAni , vanaspathi and shuruTTi were excellent . Particularly penn viduthalAi venDum in hameer and man payanurA vendUm in vanaspathi was outstanding.A rAgamAligA viruththam before a main is debatable but the delivery was outstanding.
The violin accompanist was good to very good , his bowing in sahAna was the most enjoyable. melakAveri played excellently only for kAmbOdhi , I was not too impressed with his chApu in kalyANi . Tani was average . mOrsing A S krishnan played well. Overall a very good to excellent 2 hours and 35 minute concert, with an outstanding rAgamAliga viruththam.
