A Well Balanced, Soothing and entertaining concert! I would rate Sri Maharajapuram Ramachandran's performance in the company of the seasoned musicians Nagai Muralidharan(violin) Mannarkudi Easwaran (mridangam) and V Suresh ( ghatam) on Sunday, 5th Aug. The Sangeetha Choodamani did full justice to the award presenting his vidwath combined with the decades of experience and learning he had from his revered father.

The songs rendered were:

1. Charukesi Varnam - Lalgudi's composition
2. Sadasivan Maindane - a Maharajapuram Santhanam composition
3. Pariyachakama - Vanaspati
4.Naa Jeevadara Bilahari ( well elaborated raga)
5. Ranganathude - Sourashtram
6. Kamakshi - varali (Raga, Niraval, Swara, Tani)
7. Ragam Tanam Pallavi in Brindavana Saranga in Kanda Triputa
8 Endavelaiyum kandanai (Maharajapuram?)
9. Basant Bahar tillana
(I am not sure if the list is complete)

Ramachandran, for sometime now has learnt the trick of subtlety in total and sounds melodious like his father. His Varali was very emotive and Brindava Saranga had interesting sweet roller coasters!
Nagai Murali, who has accompanied Santhanam in many concerts knew his friends every move and supported well punctuating with his own brilliance.
Groovy Easwaran and Sparkling Suresh were a perfect melodious duo embelishing and uplifting ramachandran's recital to great heights. Taking equal turns and also sharing some, every round they presented with creative ideas in matured discipline. Thaniavarthanam in misra Chapu needs a special mention. It had the all the fine elements like, genuine arithmatics, subtle nuances, punches, pauses and authority.

With an impressive crowd attending and appreciating Ramachandran and team did a fantastic job without any ado.

With all respect to sangeetha Choodamani, what I don't understand is why did he repeat the songs, popularised by father. At least, one Thillana...different.!!!! Good he did not sing- Chandrasekhara Saraswathiye Saranam..

Should it be: enda vELaiyum kanda vELaiyE sindanai seydiDu/seydiru manamE?

--in order to make sense. I figure the meaning of the line is the following:

At all times (anytime) think about kanda vEL, Oh mind!

grsastrigal!, You may be right about some of the kritis. But that day One rasika stood up asking for Basant Bahar, infact right after tani, and my neibhour was commenting "Mamavukku veettukku kilamba nazhi aayiduttu pola irukku!" as it was just 8 pm then!
