Malladi Brothers - Vocal
Embar Kannan - Violin
Mannargudi Eswaran - Mridangam
Amrit - Khanjira

I am confused whom to pick out as the best. Thats the one statement summary of the concert.

Finally, i would say Team effort stood out as the best. Such wonderful coordination. Each one displaying their brilliance only to be outdone by the other the next moment. What a concert it was!! My personal special applause goes to Amrit. He got so many "bhale and besh" from the Veteran(Eswaran). During the thani, the veteran very generously appreciated Amrit and admired his brilliancy. Exchanges between them was too good. Embar kannan was equal to the task and his touch was too good. The brothers took turns to render and i really liked the rhythm which all of them set in. Kambhoji with a Veena Kuppaiyer composition and Kokilapriya (RTP) were the main pieces. The concert went on like it will never end and nobody wanted to. Time factor did its job and it came to a wonderful end. A beautiful bhajan - a hindi one post RTP caught us in surprise and we enjoyed it. I had a check if was in a CM concert or HM. Such was their ease with which they rendered. Sound system did its part and i think the vocalists could not hear the violin sound. They were literally bending towards to the left, to ensure that they are not left out when kannan plays. Even a gentle reminder was given over the mike. Still no effect! Otherwise, It was a really good concert.

Love

I think, "02" should be Etula Dorakitivo. IIRC, this song was demonstrated by PSN & his students during the Music Academy Conference last year as part of "Rare Thyagaraja Krithis" lec dem.

Is it eTula dorikitivO or dorigitivO? Or, are they both correct?

arasi,
As per information available with me, this kRti is in vasanta rAga. And the pallavi is 'eTlA dorikitivO'; this seems to rhyme with 'cuTlAra', 'paTla' etc. Please refer to -

http://thyagaraja.sulekha.com/blog/post ... vam-28.htm or

http://thyagaraja-vaibhavam.blogspot.co ... dorikitivO

'doraku' is the root word.Its declension is 'dorikitivO';
colloquially, we say 'dorigitivO' - but I am not sure whether it is a correct literary usage.
BTW - Telugu is my mother tongue only - I have not studied the language, therefore, I am not competent to comment on the literary usage of Telugu words. In any case the softening the hard consonant - doriki - dorigi- 'g' for 'k' for example, is most confusing.

VG,
Thanks. The eTlA, eTulA usage is always a puzzle! Is it because while singing, eTula is easier perhaps?

Sri tyAgarAja seems to have used 'eTlA' because, other words 'cuTlAra' and 'paTla' cannot be converted as 'cuTulAra' or 'paTulAra' as 'eTlA' is changed as 'eTula'.

As per telugu dictionary, 'eTla' seems to be proper literary usage.

VG,

To clarify, Malladi Brothers sang this as 'Etla'.

Earlier this year TNS sang 'Emani mAtadADi' in thodi at fort school. I remember he pronounced this as 'mAtlaDi'; any similar connections ?

As per information available with me, the kRti is 'Emani mATADitivO'. Though 'mATlADu' seems to be an accepted usage - see below, if it was sung as 'mATlADitivO', it should be singer's version of the kRti.
mataladu, matadu or matladu mata-l-adu. v. n. To speak, talk, converse, to reproach. nannenduku urike mataladutavu why reproach me for nothing? S. iii. 41.

Yes, I think both 'Matada' and 'matlada' are mutually acceptable. Tho I have heard TRS sing the Todi peice as 'mataditivo'. In Kharaharapriya too 'Pakkala' and 'Prakkala' nilabadi are used by singers( Balamurali and Seetha Rajan sing it as prakkala)
