Sri S V K of Naada Inbam was continuously engaged in spotting musically talented artistes and giving them frequent performing opportunities so that they can hone their skills and widen their repertoire. He lost no opportunity in recommending them to organizers who had respect for his view. It is gratifying that his daughter Jaya follows in his footsteps and continues to encourage such talent.
One such was Ranjani Hebbar. who performed under the auspices of Naada Inbam on 21st August. .She is a disciple of Chingleput Ranganathan.
Viriboni Varnam, was followed by Kanavendamo of Papanasam Sivan,.a reposeful Eti Janmamu (Varali) and an ebullient Ekamresa Nayike in Suddha Saveri. And during the next one hour, she retained the audience interest with a very leisurely elaboration of Kambodhi and the monumental creation of Veenai Kuppaier, Koniyadina, savouring its lyrical beauty and the laya exactitude.. Jagadiswari (Raghesri), Jagadoddharana and Manadukkugandadhu of Tanjore Sankara Iyer rounded off the concert
The raga expositions of Varali and Kambodhi were bright, classically valid adhering to the vocal tradition and showed the hard work she had put in.The lucidity in the neraval and the swaraprastharas testified to her aesthetic and laya sensibilities. Her Guru ,who was present ,would have been happy that here was a disciple who would carry forward his solid commitment to strict padanthara and value based music.
Karaikkal Venkatasubramanian provided understanding support on the violin .Kudanthai Saravanan on the mridangam impressed by his ultra soft play during her karvai singing . and knowledgeable support while playing to the Krithis.
P.S Smt Vijaya and Sita Ravi were among the audience..The significance . of their presence was known when one learnt that Ranjani Hebbar is to receive the Kalki Award on 9th Sept.
