I went to the concert and enjoyed it a great deal.
Although she has had a long-held interest in carnatic music and has been taught for some time, she prepared this performance in the five months she spent in India.
As such, it did not necessarily conform to the full concert or arrangetram format, but was a remarkable achievement to learn so much in such a short time.
I do think that it helps people coming to Carnatic music to be a musician to begin with. Although they may have to adjust in many ways, perhaps even unlearn to some extent, they have already been tutored in the most essential aspects of music such as playing in tune and in time.
Although this must have been a very different concert to those she would be used to playing as a jazz musician, she seemed always at home on the stage, in the environment, and with the music. Her playing was an expression of her love for this music.
Pity I'm not qualified to comment on what she played, or the technical aspects of her perfomance.
I can that my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi, I'm just reading your comments now, my guru sent this link to me. Nick, thank you for your nice words...I remember meeting you! I had a very fullfilling experience studying in Chennai and learned more than I ever imagined. Being on the concert stage after only 5 months of formal and continuous training in Carnatic music was a huge challenge and a little scary at times but I had a great time and loved every minute. I can't wait to go back! I'm performing again in Montreal this Oct. 12. sweetaart83, where do you live in Canada? I think I have heard about you, would be nice to meet. you can email me at [email protected]
Thank you all for your interest and all the best,
Trina
