My try(with some corrections in bold). Please feel free to correct.

shrI jagadamba = Great Mother of the universe
kadamba vanAnta vAsini = who dwells in the forest of kadamba (?)
mInAkSi = having fish-like eyes
mAyE = Goddess of illusion??
kaimIlakSaNa akSi yugaLa
I don't understand this line

sura nara vara muninuta tava pAdAbjE =the Gods and even the best of sages propitiate Thy feet

shrSTi sthiti laya kAriNi = Who is the cause of all creation, sustenance and time
rUpiNi prasanna vadanAbjE caturE = Whose face resembles perfection like a lotus

prapanna jana tApaharacaritE = Who is extolled as one who rids of her ardent devotees' distress

lalitE = beautiful One
hE = Oh!
tripurE = One with three eyes
kAmEshvarAnga paryanka = Who is part of the body of kAmEShvara
shumbhAsura vidaLana nipuNatarE = Who cleverly routed the demon Shumbha
panca dashAkSari rUpiNi = Who resembles the fifteen-syllabled chant
shAmbhavi = ash-hued
praNavAkArE = Who is the primordial sound, Om
parAtparE = the most eminent
amba tvam akhilANDEshvari = Mother You are the empress of the world
manOnmaNi = Who delights the mind like a jewel
mamba tvam navaratnAnkita kuNDalini = O Mother You are the nine kuNDalini cakrAs in the body
amba tvam brahma nALikA maNDalini You are the foundation of the Universe
kamalA = lotus-like
sahaja kalAdhara = Who is the ptron of the arts
shankara sundarEshvara priya jAyE = Who is the beloved consort of Shankara sundarEShvara

amba hE pANDya mahIpAlaka tanayE= Oh Mother WHo is the daughter of the royal pANDya king, malayadhvaja
amba hE mahiSAsura mardani = O mother who routed the demon mahisha
sadayE amba = O gentle Mother
hE cakrAnta sthira nilayE = Mother whose eternal dweling is in the ShrIcakra
rAmacandra nuta = worshipped by rAmacandra (i.e. the poet)
krSNa sahOdari = sister of kr.shNa
karuNAkari = Who is compassionate
tvam = you (are)
lavalAhE = (this sounds like a Marathi word)???

Does anyone have a audio rendition of this song? I heard that the AlaTTUr brothers used to render this piece in their concerts.

thank you soo much!!
I have a few questions:
what is the relevance of pandya king? How is Parvathi/Durga his daughter? is there a story behind this?

Regards,
S.

mAyE! is not meant in the illusory sense here. the very essence of Nature seems apt.
padAbjE!: one with lotus like feet
tripurE! I would guess is addressing her as tripurA's (SivA) wife.
And, SivA got that name not because he is three eyed but because he destroyed tripurA.
Corrections welcome.
mInAkshi, the goddess of madurai, according to legend was the daughter of the pANDyA king malaydhvajA. She wedded SivA (SundarESvarA) there. Her brother VishNu gave her away in marriage.

Some corrections:

shAmbhavi = wife of Shambhu
navaratnAnkita kuNDalini = One who wear kundalas(ear ornaments) that are studded (ankita) with the nine gems
kamalA sahaja kalAdhara =one who wears a crescent(kalA) of the brother (sahaja) of Lakshmi(kamalA) ie the moon.

The moon was born from the milk ocean before Lakshmi emerged from it and is therefore her brother.

Rajani wrote:The moon was born from the milk ocean before Lakshmi emerged from it and is therefore her brother.
And thus, in lakshmI ashTOtaram she is refered to as:
'candra vadanAm, candrAm, candra sahOdarIm'

Once again, thanks for those explanantions Rajani.

Smt. Ananthalakshmi sadagopan has rendered this song in one of her concerts in 1970. The recording is available as twin cd pack by charsur in their paddathi series. I remeber to have seen two more charanams before the mudrika charanam in the Krithi mani malai by Ranga ramanuja iyengar.
as the volume is not handy i am unable to confirm it properly. Smt Ananthalakshmi has sung it in ragamalika. Composer in sri Ramachandra bhave.
