It was nice concert. Though, organised in a rather-tough-to-reach place, the turn out was quite high, possibly due to local residents.

The AlApanais of aTANA, bEgaDa and kIravANi were all very good. The svarams in rItigauLa were nice. The neraval and svarams in bEgaDa was good also. The kIravANi svarams were nice, and a korappu in dvi-kAlam was presented. The short sketches of AbhEri (with suddha dhivatham) and nIlAmbari were quite inspiring as well. All the kritis were rendered very beautifully. A nice song selection and excellent execution. All the accompanists did a good job in making the concert a completely fulfilling one.

Kana Kannayiram is a composition of Anai Ayya ? I heard that Musiri Subramania Iyer used to sing this. I heard this for the first time when Sanjay singing this krithi at Meccademy during the Musiri centennial year after Pakkala Neelabadi.

IIRC, SrutvA guNAn bhuvanasundarA are the opening words of the letter rukmiNi writes to krishNa declaring her love for him, and asking him to come and rescue her from SishupAla and the proposed wedding. She even tells krishNa about the 'gowrI pUja' and asks him to seize the opportunity this trip to the temple would afford! Every word in this letter is pregnant with meaning, and very thoughtfully composed. In just the 3 words used here, rukmiNi has managed to convey that while she is not oblivious to his beguiling, handsome form (bhuvanasundarA), it is his character that has captured her heart (SrutvA guNAn). Hearing this clothed in the entreating tones of behAg by Sri Sanjay must have been awesome!
This was choregraphed superbly in a 'rukmiNi kalyAnam' nAtyam that I saw many years ago - but I am sure that it was not tuned in behAg for that production.

Thanks Ravi for that background info and the religious significance.
