Thank You Shyam Sir. I wonder if Ambujam Krishna sang in Sahana(atleast somebody tuned her krithis to Sahana). I think they might have a lot of Karuna Rasam in her pleas to Lord Krishna.

It looks like the downpour has come to an end...

Sahanpriyan
do not despair.Just recording a RTP in sahana by Thirumegnanam Nataraja Sundaram on Nagaswaram-Thavil Raghava Pillay
One question though.
Who do RTP's in Nagaswaram not look like the normal RTPs say in vocal or other instruments. They are more on the Lines of Ragam and pallavi-with ragamalikas
very little of thanam

Ramnad Krishnan has rendered some wonderful sahana pieces. The kshetrayya padam in sahana contains almost all the sancharas.I have heard that sahana stands for gnana.

Can you please post the sahana piece by Ramnad krishnan

I also understand that a sahana rendering by Ramnad Krishnan at MA in the 60's is one of the very best rendering of Sahana

If anyone has any rendering of Ramnad Krishanan apart from the Dikshithar navavarnam which ws posted earler, i would be grateful to hear the master rendering sahana.

He is one of my favourite musicians.

I wonder why nobody has discussed Ramnad Krishnan in a separate thread.

Thanks for the recording.

here are a few more from that period..

http://rapidshare.de/files/15535466/01- ... nagiah.mp3

http://rapidshare.de/files/15535564/08- ... yengar.mp3

sometimes I cannot help recalling the incident when one of my classmates brought a UMS Calculator to college in 1978.
I borrowed it for a day to take it home and show it my family during lunch break.
Unfortunately the batteries had drained by then ,making the display look very weak.
On a hot summer afternoon , we closed all the doors and windows of the house to block away the sunlight and for another full 30 minutes we were all grabbing it from each other ,and wondering at it.

And now when i think of the distance we have covered !!!

It is really difficult for me to imagine the early days of records. They must have been great !!

AS GS Mani Advised me ,recently..
" No other generation has had it so good .What a span of achievements !.Use it My dear fellow -all these technologies , mp3 , internet ,everything at your command .Let everything good about our heritage be preserved and shared in full glory !!"

I think the same issue came up earlier, and a majority felt that it was S. Rajam.

Just a few lines about the Kamalamba Navavarna kriti in Sahana. IMO the most romantic(I think i can use this word) lines ever written in sahithya would be the first four lines of the anupallavi tuned in sahana. From that Dikshithar jumps to thrishathi and stuns with probably one of his best madhyamakalams in the anupallavi. Any carnatic raga at it best is when its handled by dikshithar.
