My first experience of hearing G ravikiran and the violinist S kArthick was good to very good. I noticed first that there is so much overlap in style and delivery with TMkrishna . The begadA start was good and mmgowlai immortalized by his pathantra (SSI) was delivered very good. Just perhaps in the start of the mmgowlai swaras there was a little slip. alApanai of athaanA had the right forceful expression, but the krithi was just delivered ok.
The days best was his excellent reetigowlai alApanai . It flowed with lot of trademark SSI vigour. tOdi was delivered quite good with a nice round up of neraval in "vasudhAtaha pura sam rakshana deva". I am always assuming that The swaras for this kumAra ettendra krithi should specifically touch upon the depth of tOdi, but perhaps he didnot get it right may be because of a ridiculous 2 hour slot.
kalyAni had lot of slips,Longing to hear a broohi mukundhEti in a live concert , ravikiran delivered it with quite a lot of voice finesse. On a side note ,broohi mukhundEthi is a difficult kurinji to comprehend it as kurinji
, I always feel more tinge of shenjuruTTi. thillAna was just ok.The violinist S kArthick needs more azhuttham (whose disciple is S KArthick??), the mridangist had an excellent aggression , but had a lot of too much uruttal at times blocking the delivery of the vocalist.
